I don’t recall Lucas being this punny. It’s like he’s baiting Cadugan solely for the halibut. I think he’s lured him in tuna many times the way Cadugan has blowfished uip.
(my apologies. I had to get them out)
*more cookies for all*
I love Cadugan’s forlorn look in panel 2, like he’s admitting some deep, dark secret that he’s ashamed of. “Yes, yes, Lucas, I…I’ve played….Go Fish!” *Cadugan buries his head in his hands and sobs uncontrollably*
How is it pronounced in the UK? I love learning these tidbits 🙂 like oregano in US is or EH gah no, and in UK or eh GAHN o
And even in US and Canada, there are regionsl variations. Boston and Maine are well known for switching r and ah, and my college roommate from long island really got her head twisted with how peoplevspoke. Like in central new york state, where i’m from, orange is ornj. 1 syllable. Down south, like georgia, , it might be or AN juh 🙂 (coincidentally, devilspanties just had a comic based on how to pronounce orange so she could teach her youngling.
As a son of English immigrants to Canada and an old timey fan of Monty Python, I assure you that the British pronunciation of "Halibut" (Or at least, the ones I’m aware of because there’re many ways of speaking over there) is not a problem for the joke. The brits I’ve heard say it pronounce it: "HALLEY-butt."
If Lucas kips this up, Cadugan’s going to have a haddock by the time they get to the monastery. That would be a problem if they end up chasing red herrings, though maybe once they snapper the yellow coward will turn tail and try to escape? However things trawl out, it’s sure to be woeth tuna-ing in.
Finally got all caught up to the stories so far! Took a while, as I’d lost access to online for a while (my old dino of a computer finally gave up the ghost). After a few years of missed reading (yeah, it took me a while to finally get access to a computer again) I’d forgotten where I’d left off last… so I decided to simply re-read from the beginning.
I probably would have gotten finished sooner, but I got distracted by the comments & links to past comics showing details missed… then reading further from from those older bits too haha! Also spotted a few of my own older comments I’d forgotten I’d made 🙂
It’s so amazing how both the artwork & the characters both matured and grew as the time progressed. Can’t wait to see how this latest arc goes and happy the stories are still as riveting as the first time I saw them way back in 2006. Thanks much for giving me something to look forward to each week, especially now that I’m in yet another "stay-at-home" lockdown.
These guys are so cute!
Lucas’ eager, surprised look in Panel 3 is particularly adorable.
t!
Fish puns are as likeable as old gnus. At least that’s what I herd, as I had enough of fish puns in school.
Sure you’re not just carping?
I’m not sure I like the tuna your reply. But hey, no roe feelings, eh? I don’t want to be shellfish with the punnish-ment we are dealing out here.
Whale, if that is how you reelly feel.
These horrible fish puns hurt me to my sole.
Oh, you like fish puns?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l1GvDWtccI
Maybe this will be enough to kipper you satisfied for a whale.
I agree with the opinions regarding Lucas’s facial expression.
Oh, maybe the harpsichordist is the murderer! He got tired of playing for scale. ?
Well they do spend a lot of time playing scales at practice.
Oh my darling pooka, you get points for that
*hands you brownies*
Yum! Thank you dear Fang FanGirl. *munches happily, tail wagging*
Are you saying the murder escaped by scaling the facade? That’s a bass accusation!
Cadugan putting Lucas firmly in his plaice

Oh, those are marvelous! We owe you cookies, Fang FanGirl. No, no, cake! *gets to baking, tail wagging*
ooophh I like cake!!

Caudugan does seem the type to say, "I had fun once. It was AWFUL."
Comes from growing up around all those nymphs and satyrs and their perpetual parties.
"Fun AGAIN? But we just had fun *last* week!"
Another joke completely over my head, oh well.
It helps if you know that "halibut" is pronounced "hal-a-bit", and sort of sounds like "hell of it"
I was completely at a loss for this joke too, but Google Translate is can pronounce weird words.
*Google Translate is can pronounce weird words.
Not sure how the "is" got in there.
But it isn’t pronounced "hal-a-bit" in the UK. I think a lot of these jokes rely on US specific pronunciation.

P!enapple, where in central NY? I’m from Rochester.

Upstaters represent! Born and raised in Catskill…Hudson Valley kid, even if I’m Yet Another Damned Florida Transplant now.
What do you get when you cross an elephant with a rhino?
t!
Elephino.
That’s a old one, you need better phonetics jokes.
(For people who don’t get that one either, Elephino is pronounced "’Ell-if-I-know")
While it is, *also,* a joke, it was also a reference.
Ya missed it.
t!
That I did, t!. I’m not good with references.
Probably why your username is the only one I don’t understand out of the regular commenters on YAFGC.
> your username is the only one I don’t understand out of the regular commenters on YAFGC
Oh, that’s because there’s no reference in it at all – I invented it.
t!
Well, let me just say that it fits you to a t!
Thank you most kindly!

If you ever need your fill of Fish and Water Puns, just queue up Kip Addotta’s "Wet Dream" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l1GvDWtccI
Careful in case you flounder
Somewhere out there, Kip Addotta is smiling.
YES. I cannot get "Wet Dream" out of my head when I read this comic! Ah, my misspent youth listening to Doctor Demento!
I stole the gag from Fozzie, didn’t know "Wet Dream."
But now I do – much obliged!
t!
Take a look at Life in the Slaw Lane too.

Welcome back!
Yes! Welcome back indeed! Nice to see you!
What did poor Cadugan ever do to anybody? <3
