This will be a generallee Hazzardous comic that i will Bookemark just for the wonderful allusion!
For those who don’t get the references, Dukes of Hazzard was a campy, trite eye- and brain-candy fun hour long series set in southern US, where the Duke Brothers and their cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse constantly helped others, often by outwitting greedy conniving Boss Hogg and his henchmen, who were the small town’s policemen. Boss Hogg was played by the wonderful Sorrell Booke. The Duke boys drove an orange muscle car with the doors welded shut just so they could be filmed sliding across the hood. The car’s name was the General Lee
I am loving this strip, but i have to ask: how is the abbott’s name pronounced?
I was thinking of them, although what came to mind was the character in Spaceballs who calls Richard Van Patten: Hey Abbott! And rvp scowling and saying he hates that guy lmao
for reference that can be translated

they were cousins, not brothers and this is the show that brought short short denim cut offs into popularity and the term "Daisy Dukes" for the character who wore them all the time.
The General Lee was a 69 Dodge Charger, and had the doors welded shut because that is how they built Nascar racecars. Also, that show was single handedly responsible for the current shortage of 68 and 69 Chargers, because of how many they destroyed while filming the episodes.
Nope, Barons could appoint a Reeve in their own Barony.
Seeing a Reeve is a chief magistrate and/or official supervising a landowner’s estate (in this case looking after the Barony while the Baron is occupied at the Abbey).
"Hey, Abbot Heigh, what was the name of the mongrelman who Cadugan met in WyldWood Forest?"
"Hu."
"The one they escorted back to the Hidden Valley."
"Hu."
"The one from the Sanctuary Village."
"Hu."
We have 3 suspects for you to interview. In room 1 we have your old friend from hidden valley Hu. In room 2 we have a kobald that answers to ‘Wat’. In room 3 we have a gnome from the prestigious Gno family by the name of Ida.
Who was in room 1?
Right.
Wright?
No, Hu.
What is the name of the suspect in room1?
No, Wat is the name of the suspect in room 2.
I DON’T KNOW!
Ida Gno is in room 3.
The only problem with this as a comic…is we can’t hear the Bard "Wayland J’annings" doing all the inter-strip narration: "Now old Mrs B. seems to be in a real pile of otyugh chow…I wonder how those Duke boys are going to get out of this one.." (*mandolin riff*)
A show that started in 2001 may be a bit after the "growing up" years of many of the folks around these parts, Sparrow. Heck, in 2001, my stepdaughter was starting college, if that’s any indication.
Such an important distinction between "growing up" and "being grown up," indeed. 🙂 C.S. Lewis put it so aptly in his comments about outgrowing the need to seem "very grown up," didn’t he? May we never be "grown up," but may we ever be growing.
My point was simply that it’s rather understandable, I think, that not everyone here’s of the right generation to have (necessarily) been watching Nickelodeon in 2001. Generational touchstones, however important to their generation, are still *generational* touchstones…and they change, from generation to generation.
(My own memories of Nickelodeon with my stepkids include travels through Les Mondes Engloutis with Spartakus, Arkana, Matt (Bob in the French version), Rebecca, and the two dancing Arcadian pangolins, and flights with Esteban, Zia and Tao on that fabulous golden mecha-condor…but I digress, forgive me.)
well in that case what cartoons did you grow up with? thanks to boomerang I’ve seen cartoons from multiple generations so my understanding of the generational shows is a bit skewed.
Early drafts had a bald-headed black man with a sawed-off shotgun concealed under his trenchcoat and a penchant for Krug, but Richard didn’t think the sunglasses were period.
The weird part isn’t my knowing the reference, although i would have, it’s that i was browsing trivia about Robert B Parker, Spenser, and Hawk literally just before i saw your comment. @_@
I have to wonder if he ever steps on that feather.
t!
Ever since I heard the name of the location, I’ve been wondering about “Baz” Hoggs. Suspicions confirmed. ?
You think maybe the Duke might be walking into a Hazard in this county?

I am loving this strip, but i have to ask: how is the abbott’s name pronounced?
“Hay” perhaps? With the short friar in the background I wonder if he often says “Heigh Abbot!
Folks, do a search on the comedy team, Abbot and Costello
Then, check the character list for this strip.
t!
"Loo" Costello for you youngsters out there!
Youngster??? They were old before I was born, I only know them from daytime TV when I was a kid.
I’m 53.
To put this in perspective, all their movies are black and white. Which makes them older than The Wizard of Oz!!!
Well, we don’t want to spend all day on the Loo now, do we?
I was thinking of them, although what came to mind was the character in Spaceballs who calls Richard Van Patten: Hey Abbott! And rvp scowling and saying he hates that guy lmao
(men in tights)
Right director, though!
t!
Yeah, they’re a couple of cool cats alright.

all 3 of you get brownies
I wonder if Mrs. B will be wearing the Daisy Dukes. It’s a scary thought.
there are times I really wish we could just have react buttons for comments.
Looks like themDuke boys are in a heap of trouble again

He even *looks* like Bud Abbott, so yeah, I’d say that’s pretty likely, T-Chall. 😀
"Abbott And The Baz"
A Donald P. Bellisario production, ran two seasons, 1981-1983.
t!
"Good morning, Abbot."
"Good morning, Abbot."
"Good morning, Abbot."
"HEEEEY AB-BAAAAAT!"
"I hate that guy."
I can actually hear that.
That’s what I had in my head.
Question is Who’s on First?
Yes.
Them boy dukes are gonna be trouble.
He didn’t expect the baron to be a hobbit.
Considering the reference made here, I expect Baron Baz Hoggs to be a pretty bad hobbit. You could even say he already looks hobbit crooked.
….OKAY Baz Hoggs and the Duke boys nice one (as the spouse of the duke of Greyfort Cad would ALSO be called a Duke
OH PLEASE LET BARON BAZ OF HOGG HAVE HIS SHERIFF PRESENT AS BODYGUARD!!!!!!
<Dwarf appears wearing a badge>
Lucas: "Who is this?"
Baz Hogg: "This is Sheriff Roscoe P. As well as law enforcement he also provides security to the miners’ coal trains."
(I’ll see myself out now)
*hands you a basket of cookies*
Brilliantly done.
A whole basket of cookies?!!!!
<SWOONS>
As a baron ,shouldn’t he be too low ranked to have a sheriff (shire reeve) under him?
in reality, probably. But this is Rich’s world, so he could very well have a law enforcement officer for his lands
Nope, Barons could appoint a Reeve in their own Barony.
Seeing a Reeve is a chief magistrate and/or official supervising a landowner’s estate (in this case looking after the Barony while the Baron is occupied at the Abbey).
"We need to surround the baron, if it’s not a hassle!"
"Sure! We’re all about the Baz, all about the Baz, no trouble!"
Okay, now you have to listen to Home Free’s version of that song.
How did I never notice before that these two guys were Duke Luke and his Beau?
"Hey, Abbot Heigh, what was the name of the mongrelman who Cadugan met in WyldWood Forest?"
"Hu."
"The one they escorted back to the Hidden Valley."
"Hu."
"The one from the Sanctuary Village."
"Hu."
"Who was the mongrelman?"
"Yes."
"In WyldWood Forest."
"Hu."
"The guy’s name."
"Hu was the mongrelman."
"I’m asking YOU who was the mongrelman!"
t!
*gives both of you cookies* I need to double my baking… all y’all are killing me LOL

And I’ll add my belated congratulations on the brilliant work in this comment thread that preceded my feeble attempt to mount the bandwagon. 😉
I adore the euphemism "otyugh chow."
t!
Thanks! Was trying to think what would sound folksy and still fit with the theme of the comic. 😉
Don’t let those two start talking about baseball.

is that the ancient ancestor to Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimsdale Dimmadome?
I had to look up that reference. And the answer is "nope. Never saw that meme before. "
wow, I thought everyone saw Fairly odd parents growing up. it was one of the greatest Nick toons.
A show that started in 2001 may be a bit after the "growing up" years of many of the folks around these parts, Sparrow. Heck, in 2001, my stepdaughter was starting college, if that’s any indication.
I am probably about your age, but I have yet to grow up.
Such an important distinction between "growing up" and "being grown up," indeed. 🙂 C.S. Lewis put it so aptly in his comments about outgrowing the need to seem "very grown up," didn’t he? May we never be "grown up," but may we ever be growing.

Heh, I was watching Land of the Lost, and as far as I know, Nickelodeon didn’t exist yet, or was just being invented.
Only watched 2-3 episodes of Fairly Odd Parents, the characters grated on my nerves.
I’m beginning to doubt that this is going to be one of those dark, moody, hard-boiled style of two-fisted detective stories.
Early drafts had a bald-headed black man with a sawed-off shotgun concealed under his trenchcoat and a penchant for Krug, but Richard didn’t think the sunglasses were period.
t!
Too bad the notion didn’t fly……
*applause*

Nah! A fedora & trench coat with a rosco & sap in the pockets, and a thick fog rolling in from the waterfront.
"I got two slugs in me. One’s lead; the other’s bourbon."
t!
Any favourites in that genre/style, btw?
t!
The web conic "Pibgorn" has run a few Fantasy/Noir detective-themed story lines over the years that were pretty good.
Instead of Baron Baz of Hoggs, you should have named him Count Stello. Then the Duke would be standing in the presence of Abbott and Count Stello. lol
Does cadagun count as a duke boy or is his title duke consort boy?
Yay! We’re back!!
Makes me wonder if Daisy was only as tall as one, and if there were a pair of gnome stagecoach drivers with a very special model to race.
