There’s a grammatical error in the 1st panel. From the number of times she prays, she must be very religious.
I don’t follow. Instead of praying, she wandered about outside reading from her book. What’s the problem?
I think Hee means that ‘Prayer’ should be ‘Prayers".
You have ‘morning prayer’, ‘noon prayer’, ‘evening prayer’ etc.
In each one you’re ‘at prayer’ so I think either ‘prayer’ or ‘prayers’ fits here, depending on the custom of the group involved.
I wonder if they follow Scriptures or the ‘gnu testament’.
Rich, it should be "she reads" not "she read". That’s the grammatical error I’m talking about.
Read as in past tense, since she is now dead (pronounced red in past tense, reed in present). Or she would read (reed) could also be used for past tense. She reads would be if she were currently or consistently doing so.
This, btw, will be me as a ghost, trying to finish all the books on my list to read and reread. 🙂

Prayer can be used as a non-counting noun, if it is the general act of, as well as countable prayers such as "say your prayers". The latter is limited in number and/or time, whereas the former is not.
Either prayer or prayers would be correct in the context of how Rich used it. Gotta love English, with all its quirks, and never knowing which rules apply, since it borrowed/stole from so many varying language families. Lmao
And I’m very intrigued by the expression on the Abbott in the final panel….
Rich, the positive thing about these snail- slow updates is that they are killing you slowly, so you’ve time to do what you need to. It takes more time this way than a slug to the brain. Seriously, be gentle with yourself, you’ve a lot on your plate, and we’ll be here. 🙂 At the same time, I understand your need to escape to this world because of the very full plate. Wish I could help.

I understood what Rich meant in the first panel, he said Taurenil would go outside to walk and read her book while the Abbey had their morning and noon prayers. Not she read her book AS morning or noon prayers.
You never know, it might have been her own prayer book.
She may not have adhered to the deities of the Abbey or their practices.
She may have been starting a gnu religion…
My thoughts now are that the book was from the future. Or a future. Possibly from Taurenil herself, foreseeing a time when her ability to see the future would disappear with the rest of magic, and planned ahead. Wrote down the cards as they would be played.
In other words, she was a real card reader.
Or perhaps it was a listing of all the plays the players had made in previous games and she was studying their styles and habits ?
You can’t be an Abbot without a habit 😉
And she studyed it during the Morning and Noon prayers, but he didn’t mention her studying it at evening prayer…
The tournament sessions were in the morning and the afternoon but no evening sessions appear on the schedule, just the collection 😉
So she apparently saw no need to read if there wasn’t a game coming up…maybe, possibly, could be, might be a carmine kipper, one of the above, all of the above, none of the above…
Is anyone else wondering how far the Magic Suppression Field extends outside the monastery’s walls? Perhaps some limited clairvoyance is possible if you’re at a suitable distance.
So the crime of murder was an inside job, but the crime of cheating outside… Very outside. And would have to be accomplished by a master/high level magician. One would almost have to say that the magician would have to be outstanding… Somewhere. If i’m understanding correctly… And not overstepping my bounds…

On a serious note of your idea, it WOULD take an incredibly highly skilled practitioner, considering the low levels of magic world-wide. Personally, I’m thinking that if cheating was accomplished, it would be via non-magical means, as we readers would have more of a chance to solve the mystery. But only the Authors know for sure 🙂

Seeing as the Abbey appears to be in a pastoral setting, surrounded by meadows and grazing lands, you could say a magician would have to be outstanding in the field….
In this entire investigation, they identified a bunch of people who had quarrels with the victim.
I can’t help but notice Maula WASN’T one of them though. Why exactly is she being accused? What indications point towards her?
What does the schedule card say? I can see the prayers and meals, but the other thing says card <something>.
"Card Tournament" would be my guess, given that’s why everybody is visiting.

Insisting on always having the same room is itself slightly suspicious. Not something that would really raise suspicions, but in hindsight after there has been foul play, one wonders if there was a sinister reason that she always wanted the same room?
