!!!
You misunderstand, Charles is the son of Flannet Hunter and the half-brother of Cadugan. Lucas and Cadugan have adopted Charles so he will inherit Greyfort. The Dungeon Mistresses, Faris and Narossa are the captives that now work in the stables for Castle Greyfort, but over the past 10 years they've adapted and are now almost part of the family. She's protective of Charles and Charles is calling her "MOM" sarcastically.
The DM's, at present, are incapable of normal human reproduction because of their permanent magical black oily/rubbery catsuits which obviously nobody has figured out how to remove safely.
But now that you mention their captive status, I am curious — are Fasi and Naroasa still officially prisoners at Greyfort, or have they been granted citizenship? (Not that it makes much practical difference; I know they would fight like hell if anyone tried to move them out of the dungeons.)
More generally, I'm really curious to eventually see how Ranna's old minions in general have fared since the war. Fasi & Naroasa were old-school DMs as I recall, so they never got the Rannite brainwashing/conversion treatment. But I wonder to what extent the more recently mind-slaved DMs and gorgons reverted to their old selves once Ranna vanished…and in the gorgons' case, whether anyone but Kurassa ever cracked the puzzle of de-cursing them.
Not expecting an answer at the moment, but these questions are yet more of the many reasons I'll never stop reading this story as long as Rich is still writing it!
Speaking of the mistress suits, I have to wonder what happens if one of them goes into a magical null field, like at the abbey in the mystery story.
Yeah, I suspect at this point Charles thinks of them as his two kinky aunties. All kinds are welcome at Greyfort, as long as they don't cause trouble. His mom was already of broad tastes and views (and talents!).
My theory is that the process itself is magical, but the suits themselves are not so anti-magic and magical nulfields won’t affect them since there’s no magic for it to be effected.
Kind of like how antimagic won’t undo the damage caused by a fireball.
It's a good question about what's happened to the rest of the DMs.
One possibility is that some of them might have made it to a kingdom, or barony, or duchy ruled by a tyrant who governs by intimidation and torture. Those DMs might be hired for their expertise in getting confessions and/or information from prisoners. Not that the confessions or information would be true, but hey, some tyrants aren't concerned about that, just so long as they can stay in power.
How old is Charles now? I think he's in his mid to late teens at this point. So, a healthy, active teenager, alone in a seaport town with many attractions geared to sailors who have been at sea for long periods of time (nudge-nudge, wink-wink), and telling him to stay out of trouble. Riiiiiiight. What could possibly happen?"
I also like the elegant way Richard stage managed Fasi off stage, to not be around if Charles fails (for one reason or another) to "stay out of trouble."
Awwww 🙂
Adorable!
She dropped already? So who's her kid's father?

Oh, I don't know what Rich Morris will answer for the first but i said Who cares?.
They two are a member very important of the castle's folk. They had fought, they had laugh and they are when someone needs them.
Fasi cares for Charles like only a loved one can do. And i suppose is a great part of her teachings.
Someday Charles will know someone special. And if that person is very lucky Cadugan and Lucas will be who investigate if so good to Charles.
And we are talking about a boy that if he suffer the minimun pain there are a orc kingdom to find guilty (he calls them uncle, aunts and cousins)
My bad

If the magical null field extends to the stables, then one of them is already there at the Abbey.
Right, one of the reasons I was curious if the null field would cause her problems.
this does beg the question, Can Dungeon Mistresses make babies? are there Dungeon Masters?
No, see Rich's response to Hee above.
The journey of the DMs to where they are now is fascinating.
From dungeon minions to worshipers of Ranna to where they are today as trusted servants.
Well, at least these two. Who knows what the rest are up to…

"You're still a kid."

t!
Is he really still a kid, or is she just saying that? I thought he was 11 or 12 before the time skip, which would make him early twenties now.
