Her original nature as interested in blacksmithing was deformed by Gruumsh meddling caused her madness. The fact, that she was good at with weapons was just a plus. She should have given a forge and a dwarven teacher, and she could have a peaceful life.
Whoever said something about Jone was apparently right on the money. A Ranna-influenced/controlled Jone is an even scarier thing than she was originally!
Yeah, if Ranna tries to control Jone, it will likely backfire, but if she just sets Jone free to do what is in her nature… A lot of people could be in trouble.
Which is why I say "influenced;" it doesn’t have to be an obvious or heavy handed thing. On the other hand, Ranna’s pretty full of herself and resurrecting Jone might be her first real setback. I wonder how much of the minds, memories, etc of the gods she’s absorbed she actually "reads." Hmmm…
Remember Gruumsh was into the whole "Chaos, mayhem, death and wanton destruction" thing towards his enemy so Jone being that aggressive without his guidance worked pretty well… until, you know, Lewie blew her up.
Not all the time, quite a bit involves sharp pointy bits of metal being poked into squishy bits, red pokers and the ever popular scorpion pit… admittedly that’s a lot like Drow humour, just a bit less refined and more spiders instead of scorpions…
Some people figured out she was a homicidal maniac. Or, at least, that she was acting like one. (and, that is a distinction to keep in mind)
But, most people (*cough* her followers *cough*) saw her as fighting for The Cause. One of the very last things we saw in the Jone Arc was the psychic Kobold predicting Jone’s return.
In the end, we readers on this side of the 4th wall plus a select group of characters had enough knowledge to realize that Jone was pure killing machine … and some evidence that she was made that way, forged that way, rather than anything she wanted to be.
So, yeah, anyway … to her rather large following, Jone is absolutely a Saint, true and martyred, to their Cause. Most of them just aren’t aware that Jone’s "cause" is not The Cause they think she is promoting.
She had a legion of followers, apparently some of them kept the faith, and are having their faith in their fallen leader rewarded. So, who is taking the over under on Joan gaining the title "God-Slayer" before this is over?
I speculate at this point that Gruumsh was somehow keeping Jone in the afterlife. Maybe not even consciously, but possibly by merely his very existence. As her Creator, her death in the mortal world would place her in a certain hierarchy of existence in the Afterlife.
As Jone actually became a minor goddess in her own right, the removal of Gruumsh from the hierarchy structure may allow her to be released to once again walk the mortal planes, with no god above her in her own pantheon.
However, she may be a true Goddess at this point (willing or unwilling), and if Gruumsh has been permanently "consumed" (for lack of a better description), Jone stands to become the true Goddess of the Orcs.
And given her powers … she may well be a Goddess (with a large power base of worshipers) who can resist & confront Ranna. And win. Especially if Ranna is fighting on several fronts at once.
Let us not forget, also, that at Jone’s core, she was just a young girl who had been subjected to great injustice. Many of her original actions were acts of fighting and avenging injustice. She may be a very frightening and strong Goddess, she may be subject to insane battle rage, but she may also be tempered with some focus on injustice.
Her royal lineage could come into very interesting play here if she really does become the Goddess of the Orcs. And, should that come to pass, being a half-orc/half-human could make for interesting politics, too.
I’m ordering about a truckload of popcorn to watch this arc play out. This is truly epic in the very definition of the word epic.
Duh. Of course, I missed one of the most obvious alternates.
I just went off assuming that Jone was sort of ‘self-resurrecting’ in this installment, having been somehow freed.
Ranna, having consumed Gruumsh, stated specifically that she had some interesting new tools she "inherited." So, what should have been "obviously" is that Jone is one of those new tools, and Ranna is controlling her (somewhat) and sent her back to the Mortal Plane.
If that is so (Jone is now a possession of Ranna) … interesting question: do all of Jone’s followers/worshipers now ‘grandfather’ in as Ranna worshipers? Does all that juicy manna of the dedicated Jone Believers automatically feed Ranna’s power ..?
Or, perhaps, those followers will directly give Jone enough power to resist/ break free of Ranna. Gruumsh discovered that he couldn’t control Jone (completely). So, does that property of Jone’s nature also grandfather to Ranna, where Ranna may well think she is in control only to discover (at the worst possible moment, hopefully) that Jone is a bit more independent than that?
Her father was The Fox. *chuckle* Her mother told that story, and it was very clear. Also, her name I believe relates to that in Orcish.
http://yafgc.net/comic/1271-whiteeye-tells-a-story/
This could be the opportunity for Jone to right the wrongs that she and her followers caused. I am hoping for Jone’s enlightenment through her ass kicking of some gods/mortals who are in serious need of it. With this, Jone will level up to Orc goddess and balance will be obtained. The orcs need a new god anyway – Grummash (if I remember his name correctly) hasn’t been very effective in a long time. Jone, Orc goddess of a fair fight, bravery, fortitude, and determination. A sword of spiritual power to inspire oppressed and downtrodden followers here on the mortal plain!
Thaaaaaaat’s not good. I always felt sorry for Jone, but she’s such a homicidal maniac it’s hard to maintain that feeling.
Dunno, might be that Ranna bit off more than she can chew here. I mean, we all remember how much "control" Gruumsh had over Jone, don’t we?
You mean, no control at all?
Unless Ranna has sent her back to the mortal realm to sow chaos and fear
Yeah, if Ranna tries to control Jone, it will likely backfire, but if she just sets Jone free to do what is in her nature… A lot of people could be in trouble.
Specially if Jone remembers what happened last time she was alive… and who helped put an end to that
Which is why I say "influenced;" it doesn’t have to be an obvious or heavy handed thing. On the other hand, Ranna’s pretty full of herself and resurrecting Jone might be her first real setback. I wonder how much of the minds, memories, etc of the gods she’s absorbed she actually "reads." Hmmm…
Doesn’t even have to ‘influenced’: Jone is a very powerful self-guided weapon, all Rancid has to do is set her loose and let Jone do her thing
Remember Gruumsh was into the whole "Chaos, mayhem, death and wanton destruction" thing towards his enemy so Jone being that aggressive without his guidance worked pretty well… until, you know, Lewie blew her up.
And she stabbed him in the foot and kicked all his best ghost warriors
Considering that she was uncontrollable before, she will be totally uncontrollable now, which would be exactly what Ranna wants.
Wish granted!!!
Have always said: be careful what you wish for, you may just get it!
Yeah, there’s someone else…yet again…saying something that tempts the Fates (ie: GM Fiat). Is nobody going to learn anything around here?
😛
Aw crap
That’s exactly what I came here to post…
Thirded.
And hilarious hi-jinks ensue!
Orc humor typically involves evisceration.
Not all the time, quite a bit involves sharp pointy bits of metal being poked into squishy bits, red pokers and the ever popular scorpion pit… admittedly that’s a lot like Drow humour, just a bit less refined and more spiders instead of scorpions…
*rocks back and forth* everything will be fine… everything will be fine…
Ranna converting Jone? I would like to see that.
Rancid doesn’t have to convert Jone, just resurrect her
Oww Crap!!!
Don’t you mean ‘Orc Crap!!!’ 😛
CURSES!
I wonder what would happen if she faces Ranna herself.
Why do you think Rancid kicked her out of the afterlife? o_O
Maybe it was that new Orc goddess who sent her back? Idk.
It was the LAST chance
She must be the "interesting tool" Ranna was talking about. But tools like that tend to maim whoever wields them.
St. Jone? How did she manage that? I thought everyone knew she was a homicidal maniac?
Never underestimate the ability of people to delude themselves.
Also, some of her army escaped and they apparently still believed in her thanks to the kobold priestess.
Actually …. No.
Some people figured out she was a homicidal maniac. Or, at least, that she was acting like one. (and, that is a distinction to keep in mind)

Just because she was a ‘pure killing machine’ doesn’t stop her from being a Saint, just look at old George
She had a legion of followers, apparently some of them kept the faith, and are having their faith in their fallen leader rewarded. So, who is taking the over under on Joan gaining the title "God-Slayer" before this is over?
I love the name Crater Of Betrayal. Beautifully, characteristically, self-serving.
t!
Well, in a way, it’s accurate, from _their_ viewpoint
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMQtTu1eKw4 that is all

Well, Goddess of the half-orcs anyway. Though I doubt that Glon will be happy to see her.
Forget Glon, what about Lewie? o_O
Or Duke Luke and The Cad? (remember, Luke was her {very unwilling} consort just prior to her Ascension…)
Duh. Of course, I missed one of the most obvious alternates.

Ordering second truckload of popcorn. 😀
I’m wondering if the new Orc Goddess delebretly send her back.
I wonder what her father will think of seeing her.
Her father is long dead, he was just some no-name hyu-mon
Who you do believe her father was? o_O
Her father was the Fox. See strips 1271 & 1272.
Her father was The Fox. *chuckle* Her mother told that story, and it was very clear. Also, her name I believe relates to that in Orcish.
http://yafgc.net/comic/1271-whiteeye-tells-a-story/
Oh right, forgot about him, that randy sod should change his name to "The Rabbit" 😛
Worst. Wish spell use. Ever.
Well, they are female, and the blonde seems to believe in Saint Jone of the Kickingyourmalearse, so they may be safe 😛
not likely, remember the woman who brought her sword to be blessed by Jone? she slashed open her throat.
No, don’t remember that
∙ http://yafgc.net/comic/1373-the-righteous-almighty-jone/
Damn! Would have preferred to have remained forgetful about that, but thank you 🙁
I was meaning for the kingdoms at large, not those two in particular.
Definitely think she’s going to regret turning that one loose…
And so the new girlfriend of Thing came to existence… because… wasn’t everything else scattered and ripped into pieces?
I don’t think that matters, because evil magic.
Jonah? Is it you?
Random character: "Lewie!! Ranna rezzed Jone!!"
Lewie: *takes out scroll, scribbles on it* "Reason 651 why I hate that bitch…"
This could be the opportunity for Jone to right the wrongs that she and her followers caused. Are you sure we’re talking about the same Jone here?
ohh pleas let that "just" be a zombie
Instead of the lady of the lake, we have the child of the crater.
Heeeeere’s Joney!
