It wasn’t ‘decided’ what colour her skin was until this strip. I thought she looked better that way. It actually came out darker than I intended, but I liked it.
One expects a person who spends their life outdoors in the sun on the deck of a ship to be fairly tanned, though before now she gave more of a Spanish impression, with her long dark, slightly curled hair, and has an Italian surname, which didn’t jar with her appearance much either. It all fit together nicely and gave her a certain impression.
