Titles and character-lists get re-written…like when erased Archives are re-uploaded…the strips themselves stay the same…new strips are new and holes getting filled in in the Archive are old scans from a back-up, or new scans of the original art or something.
I think the creator hears the speaking parts in their imagination and then writes it down phonetically, or something; it must be really hard to standardize all the spellings in a story with a cast of thousands…a popular character might easily be off-stage for over a year of strips! Sometimes the spelling of a name will slip a bit between appearances (or what they are best referred to as, might totally change…case in point, Prince Glon here!) but the character list is attached to the Archives and has to be standardized for EVERY APPEARANCE (or we would miss part of their story when looking for their particular journey)!
…even later…
Is mostly correct. A lot of these strips are written and drawn as I am inspired and after all these years it’s hard to keep track of characters that sometimes disappear for ages.
When I created Gaggia, I wrote her name that way, but always pronounced it in my head as "Gadgia". I started writing it phonetically by accident and then much later, when I was renewing the archives, I went back to my original spelling. The correct way to say it is "gad-JEE-ya" and the "correct" way to spell it is "Gaggia". But she’s a fictional character so she won’t complain either way.
Why is it Gadgia in the text balloons, and some titles, but in the characters list, it is spelled Gaggia?

(we can hope Glon isn’t just mispronouncing is new bride’s name…but he WAS raised in a different community and might not have Orkish names down yet)

Jais is Arachne’s Dark Mistress girlfriend, Shaija is the one who married Glon 🙂
I just noticed Princess Gaggia’s expression, in retrospect. I don’t feel bad, ‘though…it took Glon years to notice!
