"Teenager" is a relatively recent concept; just a century or so. Up to and even including the Industrial age, you were considered an "adult" from the point you could do an adult’s job on the farm, so about 14 or so.
After we started putting age restrictions on everything (even personal, private behaviors) then raising those ages again and again, the concept of "teenagers" started to become more distinct, as did "the rebellious phase", describing the period when young adults resent being treated as though they are still small children incapable of thinking for themselves or making decisions… quite understandably.
Actually, it would appear that Judaism has had the concept of teenagerhood for well over 2000 years, literary defined by age and/or the sexual development of the body, however teenagerhood looks to be classified as a sub-period of time within adulthood, wherein the beginning is clearly defined, however the end only has guidelines (technically, age of marriage is 18, however in reality, that is only a guideline for around when people are supposed to be mature enough for marriage, with the actual agree of marriage depending on the individuals, and as such could theoretically be as early as 13 and a day).

Teenager as a word is relatively recent, as well, of course, but there were always teenagers as they are literally only defined by being between 13 and 19 years old.
I find that those that want to treat children like adults fall into two groups, the children themselves and adults who want to manipulate them, like pedophiles. I see no reason to listen to either.
