The worst thing about weaving jokes into your campaign is the amount of time you have to wait before you can to tell them to your players.
Like that time my players bought a discount potion of levitation that had gone spoiled. It took them five sessions to try and drink it, at which point I could barely contain myself telling them the punchline; that they had trouble keeping it down.
As a GM, I once introduced a Ring of Flight into the campaign. It was originally made by an apprentice but was rejected by his master for one tiny flaw: The Flight power only applied to the ring itself, the magic did NOT extend to the person wearing it. To use the ring, the wearer would have to close his fist tightly & pray that the ring didn’t tear his finger off…
"…seriously, GM?"
"Dude, I’ve been saving that joke for months. Let me have my fun."
I’m telling my GM of this right now. This is absolute gold.
