Although I have to wonder if Stirges don’t carry bloodborne parasites and diseases like mosquitos sometimes do. They are pretty much a living shared needle. Giving the prisoner some time to build his strength back up and let his immune system go to work on anything he picked up (or if he fails that fortitude check, for any communicable diseases to become obvious) might be prudent.
Probably not, mosquitoes do that because insects are just lousy with parasites. A consequence of their simple anatomy and relative lack of immune system.
Stirges are probably mammals, they're mostly bat after all.
