I don’t think you need a bear with you. You already have a full-time job of being a dad and husband, a more than full-time job that pays some of your bills, chores around the house, the extras you do for the other gigs, being a pet guardian, being a dm (if you’ve time for that still? Or if the kids have it on hold cuz of situations?), and all the rest. Plus all the gnus that have invaded. I don’t see how you’ve time to breathe, much less deal with a bear.
On a side note, Cadugan’s face… Sooooo expressive!! You drew it perfectly, i’m still giggling!!!
Like P!enapple said, it’s okay, you’ve got a lot of real life responsibilities that come first. YAFGC should be a pleasure for you, that’s important. Thank you for all you do and all the best, Rich.
You have a life and you warned about it. It’s more other authors did.
And important too, and i’m talking on my own experience (fortunately like reader), if you won’t enjoy doing this the quality of the storys will fall down.
And i don’t know Mark but i bet he didn’t want to make any recriminations on you.
Mostly of who stay here (i don’t use all, it’s no good even when is exactly) understand your actual situation (and are very glad the good things that cause it) and support you.
I know, it can be unbearable, grizzly even. But even when it looks black, the polar opposite of what you wanted, we still love you, dude. Let that be your paws for thought.
I figure I’m not paying for it and I’m not helping make it so I’ll take what I get whenever it comes out, beggars can’t be choosers and all that…I’m just happy the story didn’t end abruptly with no warning after all these years.
Actually you won’t!
(well, not *again*)
Next strip begins not with the question, but the answer already in progress.
I figured, after Cadugan has been a pain over that issue twice by now (and not unreasonably), it’d be fun to just meta-toss the reminder in the title, as Rich said.
Many years from now, when someone is binging this story, I hope they’ll remember from earlier strips.
A hem! It seams that Caudigan has question needling him and has a notion he can get this whole mess sewn up, but itβs not done until the fat lady Singers.
Lucas would probably just shuttle back and forth between the warped threads until he could see the whole tapestry of facts and everyone’s ‘jaquards’ were on the table.
One coffee into a gnu day…it doesn’t get much better than this, π
You did not! It’s just that I’m supposed to approve new commenters and I’ve been so busy lately that poor YAFGC has gotten a bit neglected. I’m trying to keep more on top of it. I love this comic and I don’t want it to die. And I’m really encouraged by the feedback I get even when I’ve been absent for a few weeks. I’m so sorry about this. Do please stick around there’s so much more YAFGC story and life.
-R
…I can’t believe I actually caught up.
I’ve used to read this comic looong time ago. Been a fanboy of more animalistic critters, most notably Yapp and – of course – Cap’n Fang.
I’ll be more than happy to follow this comic properly from now on, waiting for updates along with people. I saw you’re struggling a bit mr. Morris, so please take your time, really. After all, if not for you, we would have nothing to read, so you are most important here.
I’m so glad I could return. I’m so glad for many things. Cap’n Fang’s ultimate epic moment, survival of the monster kids, happy fates of others – even if some died.
I just need to know one thing. Are the kobolds okay? Lil fuzzy critters of the late mountain? Did they survive? Are they thriving? They always cheered me up lil fuzzy chaos incarnates. I really love your depiction of them, too. Unusual but adorable.
Tiamat have them under your draconic wing.
I just want to add my voice to all the people supporting Rich–I too have no right to complain about stuff I’m getting for free. I’m perfectly willing to take what I can get when it becomes available.
Even if it’s a slow burn…the fire is still alight.
Once upon a time, many years ago…internet-wise π
I seem to remember several comics having a "who can go the longest without missing an update" contest.
I’m almost positive this one was in the group but I can’t for the life of me remember who won.
Maybe the author does ?
That sort of thing wouldn’t work today, I can’t think of any that don’t miss the odd update or have to slow down or pause since other things (like making enough money to eat and pay their mortgages, net bill, etc.) take priority.
Most authors didn’t have families when they started and those take up a lot of time and money so it makes sense that little projects like this have to get put on the back burner for awhile.
That’s one reason I keep so many bookmarked, a good percentage are on ‘pause’ at any time and this one is no different.
As I said before, I’ll take what I get when I’m give nit and be happy with what I got.
Thanks for sharing it with us all this time.
I can think of a few that haven’t missed an update in quite some time, although a couple will put in some filler if the regular update is delayed.
Kevin and Kell (running strong since 1995? And I don’t think he’s ever missed an update)
Girl Genius (good with filler)
Gunnerkrigg Court
The Devil’s Panties
Least I Could Do (probably?)
Schlock Mercenary was also always on the mark when it was running, or so I’m told.
However, I believe for every one of those cartoonists, that is now their primary job. A lot easier to stay on schedule that way.
I appreciate Rich keeping us informed; it eases the wait and this way, we know he’s well and hasn’t disappeared into the aether for whatever reason. And I get to do a happy dance when there is an update (much to the amusement of my significant other).
Questionable Content has been almost constant in keeping something to update, with the rare exception. Sometimes filler, but his own ideas, or quest strips, mostly prescheduled. Dumbing of Age, also has had very few, if any.
Irregular Webcomic missed a very few the 1st month, iirc, but none in the decade plus since. He’s even remarked on the irony of the name.
Xkcd
And you two are so right about priorities changing. Many comics now support the artist, so it is their job. Rich, bless him heartily, grants us access for free, and on top of all else. And ty all who make this such a supportive peanut gallery. π
I was thinking more about that specific ‘contest’ I’m pretty sure it was at least ten years ago, or maybe more or even less…time gets to be little more than an inconvenience after a certain age π
I seem to remember Schlock Mercenary being one but I don’t think it won, I’m fairly certain this one was in it and Freefall, but I just don’t remember…maybe someone else can ?
It’s the little things like this that changes the colour of what little hair isn’t already white…
Gotcha. I missed hearing about a contest, here and irl. There is sooo much of the web i missed out on, even tho i was on it fairly early. This comic was one. I found it via the 1st book a friend of mine had, and found it delightful, refreshing, and incredible story telling. Took me a bit longer to get to the web version, and the peanut gallery π and i still haven’t caught up on many of the other comics lol
I found it pretty much on day one, maybe day five or six π
I just found out recently that you didn’t need to make an account to post comments, this may or may not be a good thing…
A lot of other ones I’ve been reading for years and wouldn’t mind adding my observations and gratitute to need a ‘disqus’ account or some other thing I’m not going to do, pity.
The most wonderful things in life require patience, understanding, trust in the process, and gratitude. Relationships. Road trips. Brisket. Homemade vanilla extract. YAFGC is no different.
We’ll be here when the new strip arrives. And we’ll be cheering. π
Yeah, my first. I bet it would get even better on a second read (although, some of the more spoilery comments already made me pay attention to some of the more intricate details), but it’d honestly be tad too big a time investment right now. Definitely some food for thought for my own worldbuilding projects though, especially considering how similarly godhood works here.
Yeah, the comments are sometimes pure gold! As implied before, it would have been better for me to ignore some of them though. I would have loved to have found out Fox’s identity at the reveal, for example. But I guess it is what it is. The price one pays for being attracted to the glow of this warm and clever fan community in the comments, like a moth to a flame.
Looking forward to hearing Cadugan’s question in… three months?
Look at the title of the strip. And bear with me. I really wish I could update more often, I’m trying.
I don’t think you need a bear with you. You already have a full-time job of being a dad and husband, a more than full-time job that pays some of your bills, chores around the house, the extras you do for the other gigs, being a pet guardian, being a dm (if you’ve time for that still? On a side note, Cadugan’s face… Sooooo expressive!! You drew it perfectly, i’m still giggling!!!
so your saying itβs not a bear that keeping Rich from updating more often?
Like P!enapple said, it’s okay, you’ve got a lot of real life responsibilities that come first. YAFGC should be a pleasure for you, that’s important. Thank you for all you do and all the best, Rich.
Like P!neapple and T-Chall said.

I see what you did there Fnordius! Kudos! π
You are giving us an amazing, beautiful story…for free.
You take your time, live your life, and when *you* have more to share, those of us who love it will be here to welcome it.
I figure I’m not paying for it and I’m not helping make it so I’ll take what I get whenever it comes out, beggars can’t be choosers and all that…I’m just happy the story didn’t end abruptly with no warning after all these years.
Hey, it’s all good! I just check in at reasonable intervals and get to be very happy when there is an update! π
PS: I think your numbering is off. It should be 3476.
> Looking forward to hearing Caduganβs question
Actually you won’t!
(well, not *again*)

t!
I still check every day – yep, don’t like dem new fangled RSS feed thingies…
There’s another reason to check every say:
The supportive community that has grown here in the comments. At least, that’s how I feel.
And that’s good. Really good.
Same!
t!
Good catch, Lucas.
You won’t sleep on the couch from a week to three months π
Werewolves are not allowed on the couch! He’d have to sleep in the, ahem, dog house. π
Or in the laundry.
Good boy, Lucas π
"Why is the sky blue ?"
"Who put the bomp in the bomp-she-bomp-she-bomp ?"
"Who put the trousers in Mrs Murphy’s chowder ?"
So many questions….
Yes, that IS an important question!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M-_oF588FE
Another important question related to that, "Who Put the Benzedrine in Mrs. Murphy’s Ovaltine?" https://youtu.be/rZ5_SyvxDXE
I thought I was the only one who’d recognize that one so I skipped it, thanks !! π
"I wonder, wonder, wonder, who, who wrote the book of love?"
and the spirits of serendipity drop their load again….

If it’s spirits that are doing that, than maybe the answer lies here with more spirits. https://youtu.be/Kt5Vv97v5g8 π
"Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost over night?"
"Where is love?"
"Who Let the Dogs out?"
A hem! It seams that Caudigan has question needling him and has a notion he can get this whole mess sewn up, but itβs not done until the fat lady Singers.
Of course, the abbot can tell him to zipper it.
This thread of puns is making me crochety
Of course, the abbot may hem and haw his way out of it all. Bordering on fringe ideas, though I cannot support that claim. I’m a frayed knot.
the previous page was "3475" and now we are at "2476"… maybe a little problem π
Someone has to knit all the loose strands together π
Cadugan just might have a purl of wisdom to weave into the plot π
sorry, early, coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, that’s as good as you get.
These were just crewel, but sew what? Just because i wasn’thready for them, i won’t knitpick.
I wonder what Lucas would think of these puns: are they to dye for or worn to the woof?
Lucas would probably just shuttle back and forth between the warped threads until he could see the whole tapestry of facts and everyone’s ‘jaquards’ were on the table.
One coffee into a gnu day…it doesn’t get much better than this, π
Sorry but i have seen now.
The strip is bad number (i see because in the links to other strips have a bigger number than this).
The number is 3476 and not 2476 (i think have any effect but i don’t know for sure)
Did I do something bad that my comments need to be moderated before posting? If so, I’m sorry!
Seems that it just adds to your workload, is all.
You did not! It’s just that I’m supposed to approve new commenters and I’ve been so busy lately that poor YAFGC has gotten a bit neglected. I’m trying to keep more on top of it.
