My dad and uncle were in my uncle’s small motorboat on the river near his house when they got too close to a swan’s nest. The male came flapping his wings, running on the water, honking like crazy. When he got to the boat, he smacked the motor with one of his wings and killed the 2 hp outboard; he then swam back to his nest, seemingly content in a job well done protecting his nest. Dad and Uncle Bryce then rowed back to his place, where the rest of us (my aunt, cousins, my mother, brother and I) were and they told their tale.
