The serpent motife was Ranna's symbol – it was in the ancient capital, where it was her body imprisoned, when the adventurers arrived to steal the hand.
Soooo, I guess the tarantula symbolizes either generally the drow or more specifically Lolth, who went back to her realm after her scuffle with the Beholder King – still missing from the archives, I might add.
What about the serpent, though? Kila had a serpentine body, but she is powerless without a single worshipper and was utterly trounced by Lolth last time. Maybe dragons – but what would their beef be with the dark elves?
Or another faction enters Black Mountain – my guess is Yuan Ti.
If we doesn't forget, what we just learned in the previous chapter, the drow – more specifically "the Order of the Spider" – is an enemy of Ranna – who's capital was decorated by "Snakes" -, i think this is a long waited escape of said evil goddess. Kila was pretty weak, as her only existing sentient follower was Lewie, but even he renounced her after realised her actions.
I’m glad there was a title page, because, man was that a jarring transition. Especially since I had to go way back and see where that story with Lewie connected up. (I’m not complaining about that connection–that was cool even if it messed with my understanding of the timeline.)
I’m taking it that today’s page is highly symbolic. While, on the surface, it looks like a Bad Time for the Drow, that also isn’t one of their more typical spider representations. So, I’m not going to try to read to much into it just yet.
I would note, though, that there is a complete lack of scale. That snake could be six inches or six feet long.
If you go back to http://yafgc.net/comic/2726-my-life-with-drow/ you will see a similar looking arachnid, and remember, Lolth isn’t the only Drow Goddess
Okay, who or what is this serpent?
Has Cobra Commander escaped prison and jumped dimensions again?
As Snakes are known to survive without food, the only possible reason for this attack is an immense hatred for spiders. Thus I’d suspect Kila. (=
They may go without food for long periods of time, but they still need to eat
But, the snake eating a spider does have symbolic connotations
Yeah, well, um, I totally forgot about that. I guess it diminishes the obviousity of the irony, huh?

That is some sound reasoning..

You’re always good, Rich. 😉

Do I smell yuan-ti?
