Yeah… I saw that coming. *shakes head* At least the other girl had the sense to run. Her mother’s spirit must be really quite horrified.
What Jone’s ‘followers’ are failing to grasp is that when handed a new weapon, her first instinct is to test it out on the closest living thing… which is usually whoever just handed her the weapon.
I found it amazing how many of Jone’s followers missed/ignored the fact that Jone slaughtered friend and foe alike and all her "pronouncements" came from an insane kobold girl.
Look at Groo leap into the fray!
Look at Groo slay the soldiers in the red uniforms!
Look at Groo Slay the soldiers in the blue uniforms!
Who won the Fray?
Religion is all about someone ‘interpreting’ events to determine ‘divine will’. And is a complete con game… or crazy… or both.
"A hurricane! Our god is angry with us for allowing sinners among us!"
"A good harvest! Our god is pleased with our devotion!"
"A shooting star! An omen! Out god wants a tithe from his followers. I’ll collect it and make the sacrifice to our god."
"My new house? A gift from our god as a loyal servant – you too can be blessed if our god determines you devoted enough!"
Heroes are often the same thing. Especially dead ones. Rewriting events to make it sound good to the public, to the point where the events and the hero both no longer have any connection to reality.
She was stoned half the time, more so than normal for a kobold (even Fang is more sane than that chick. please to be noting that ‘sanity’ and ‘intelligence’ are not the same thing :P)
*skims back a few* Hold on… interesting tools? As in plural?

What if Ranna realised that she can "direct him into seeing her side of things"?
But, how does that help the one who was requesting the blade, for themselves? o_O
They were not offering up the blade to Jone, can you imagine how short the ‘Lord of the Rings’ would have been if, after that scene where everyone was offering up their weapon, they were killed with their own weapon?
You have to see it from Jone’s perspective. I see her as an amoral killing machine, if that helps. Bladed weapons have always been extremely important to her. So, from that perspective, the worshippers asking for blessings for their weapons are not asking anything for themselves. They are asking for a blessing for their blades. If the blades had a consciousness, you could call them blood thirsty. So Jone is obliging by offering them blood.
The logic is twisted, but it’s there. Now I need to step out of Jone’s head before the nightmares set in.
Oh, and anyway, from the way she reacts, it’s not clear that she has what we would consider normal and rational thought processes, behavior, and emotions.
Because we’re wired that way. Jone is an evil killer, but she’s not at fault. She was made that way. Plus there’s the whole bad childhood thing and her earlier attachment to Glon. She seemed happy with the orc royal family. We’d like to see her have that back. Works for me, except I think it might be necessary to destroy her utterly.
Youthful high spirits? And actually, she didn’t kill Goria, only tried to. Goria was poisoned during Coup d’ Drow.
I did say I thought it might be necessary to destroy her utterly. The big question is how to do that, since being blown to smithereens didn’t do the trick.
Hey, Jone, Ranna’s your new goddess. Go show her the same respect you did Gruumsh, but aim for the gut, not the toes.
Now let us all sing a hymn to blessed St. Jone of Orc — The Murderous Toy, sung to the tune of "The Marvelous Toy?"
Chorus:
It went ZAP! when it fired; it cursed when it missed
And whirred as it took aim
It didn’t know if we were friend or foe
It attacked us just the same
Jone’s a classic "Woobie Destroyer of Worlds" – she’s a pitiable figure, but she’s also Chaotic Evil and kills pretty much anyone that gets close enough to her blade. Lewie had exactly the right idea: Kill It With Fire.
And now Ranna’s resurrected her. If that wasn’t ever a dumb move, I don’t know what is.
So was her flesh. In the end all what was left of her were some scattered, charred bones. But that’s nothing a True Resurrection, invoced by a literal goddess, wouldn’t fix. Ranna probably chose this form for Jone so that she could inspire even more fear.
Yes, but DID Ranna actually raise Jone? Or did she do it herself? Remember, she pretty much got completely out of the Orc god’s control in the first place.
"See how Jone slays her for the sin of placing the sword the wrong way!"
"But I thought I didn’t matter which way we placed the weapons?"
"Heretic! Jone shall slay you!"
Yeah… I saw that coming. *shakes head* At least the other girl had the sense to run. Her mother’s spirit must be really quite horrified.

Well, it’s not like we would never see real people ignore the facts, take wrong sides and make wrong choices.
Not Unprecedented in comics:
Look at Groo leap into the fray!
Look at Groo slay the soldiers in the red uniforms!
Look at Groo Slay the soldiers in the blue uniforms!
Who won the Fray?
Groo.
So… business as usual?
Religion is all about someone ‘interpreting’ events to determine ‘divine will’. And is a complete con game… or crazy… or both.

Case in point, Custer.
insert custers revenge joke here
well to be fair said kobold undeniably had some level of knowledge and prophetic vision
She was stoned half the time, more so than normal for a kobold (even Fang is more sane than that chick. please to be noting that ‘sanity’ and ‘intelligence’ are not the same thing :P)
I reiterate, "Worst. Wish spell use. Ever."
Which wish? A page reference would help.
It was a joke I made in the previous comic. One of the pair wished she could have met Jone, and out popped her arm. It wasn’t an actual spell used.
….. Err, I HOPE it wasn’t an actual spell used.
Same ol’ Jone. More interested in testing out how sharp her sword is.

What if Ranna realised that she can "direct him into seeing her side of things"?
"Him"? Jone’s a lady. :X
Alyx is talking about ‘Glon’, the other tool
D’oh, my bad. I should refrain from commenting until I had my morning coffee.
No need to have it blessed, it seems to be working just fine.
Perhaps this is just how Jone blesses a blade, by sacrificing the one requesting the blessing?
But, how does that help the one who was requesting the blade, for themselves? o_O

Oh, and anyway, from the way she reacts, it’s not clear that she has what we would consider normal and rational thought processes, behavior, and emotions.
Or rather, it is clear that she doesn’t.
Hey, a baptism in blood makes a fine blessing.
This is why Jone is nothing more than a rabid animal that needs to be put down, permanently!!
Not a rabid animal. More like an artifical killing machine.
she looks like teh cryptkeeper 😛
She always was thin, but this is definitely an even slimmer look for her.
"Nobody stays fat down there."
– Homicide: Life on the Street
The short course in evil undead recognition, with Prof Whiteye.
Well… She’s grown taller…. and… even more creepy. Jesus.
How come Jone is the single thing that scares me the most as well as the thing I most want to see have a happy ending in this comic?!
Just the most scary AND the most sympathetic character i’ve ever seen! On the same time! How is that even possible?!?!?!
Except, she killed her own mother!!!
Actually, she didn’t. Stabbed her own mother, yes, but it was drow poison that ended Goria’s life.
No she did not. She was poisoned. But Jone did destroy her will to live in the first place.
Youthful high spirits? And actually, she didn’t kill Goria, only tried to. Goria was poisoned during Coup d’ Drow.
I did say I thought it might be necessary to destroy her utterly. The big question is how to do that, since being blown to smithereens didn’t do the trick.
Okay, but she still stabbed her in the chest area, and _tried_ to kill her own mother, the only person who ever loved her
Jone is a killing machine, she marks no difference between friend, ally, or foe. If they are standing or living they are prey.
And that’s why she has to be stopped, or there will be _nothing_ left
Yeah… Not a surprise.

Love that song 😀
She’s cute.
Richard, you made her cute.
Creepy as fuck, but cute.
t!
Hey Jone, do you still do that "biting-through-an-oak-plank" number?
Jone’s a classic "Woobie Destroyer of Worlds" – she’s a pitiable figure, but she’s also Chaotic Evil and kills pretty much anyone that gets close enough to her blade. Lewie had exactly the right idea: Kill It With Fire.

Waaait a minute. Wasn’t Jone’s hair burned?
So was her flesh. In the end all what was left of her were some scattered, charred bones. But that’s nothing a True Resurrection, invoced by a literal goddess, wouldn’t fix. Ranna probably chose this form for Jone so that she could inspire even more fear.
Good point.

Jone The Orc has risen from GRAAAaaaaaaVE!
Jone the Orc has risen…
From the grave!
Oh well. That's what you get for worshipping a homicidal lunatic.
