Drawn by Ron Bender (Well, when they aren’t being drawn by me, that is…)
Also, thanks to Ron Bender for helping me translate Hank’s dialogue into “Old Westernish”.
Whoa… talk about time working in different ways 😮
Nice recap 🙂
Meegs, dear. Keyword: "Multiverse." The word "impossible" does not work at the Mulriverse level.
Technical comment:
The dialog in panels #2 & #3 is beyond my old eyes. I can sort of make out most of it … but. Suggestion? I don’t know what the original size of those panels available to you is, but possible this strip could have just been five panels in a vertical strip and make them all about the full width of the available space ..?
Not entirely critical, though, since I more than grasp all the essential content.
"Impossible" … that means it happened only in set of universes with Lebesgue measure 0, right?
(For people without advanced math knowledge: any finite set has Lebesgue measure 0, only infinite sets MAY have it bigger.)
Impossible means is happened only in the set of universes with Lebesgue < 0. 😉 If you are thinking that is not possible, think of what that would mean about those universes.
Why did the Rannites send him to run a band of thieves in Shelterville?
t!
(is being deliberately obtuse)
Perhaps Rana has been stealing artifacts from across the multiverse, and that is what is responsible for her sudden rise in power and ability to eat other gods, etc.
Was waiting for a response from Rich regarding being "too negative or critical", but no response _is_ a response so will be removing this webic from daily read
Have never had anything against him and have enjoyed his work for years (even during the time of missing pages and irregular updating, continued checking in almost every day) but apparently the other readers have a problem with me (not an opinion, but a fact), they have called me out several times regarding opinion towards three characters so will address that before leaving (all based on what Mr Rich has designed for and about them)
Eddy: he may once have been one of the Greatest Wizards of All Time, but we haveseen him steadily declining into being a senile old has-been. One of the first times we saw him, he cast a big magical teleport to move the royal fleet that then put him into a coma for a couple years (believe it was supposed to be a few decades, but not sure if it lasted that long), during that time Meegs took over and went on that Adventure to the Lost Valley, which Eddy dismissed as not happening as he would have woken up for something that big.
Later, when they were needing a new King, he objected to their own rules for succession and planed on creating his _own_ king, which leads into the next character:-
Runt: He may well have grown up into a fine and just King, but he is a fraud and. he. KNOWS. IT!!! During that tournament that saw a Bugbear (or was Karrack a Hobgoblin?) legitimately becoming King, Eddy created his own version of "The Sword in The Stone" ("The Axe in The Stump"), during some kerfuffle Runt handed him the axe. But, and this is where the knowing fraud comes in, he told Eddy that it was _Fang_ who pulled out the axe and went along with the ruse of claiming responsibility himself. While he may not have known at the time what was really going on, he _has_ to have figured it out over the years
And now for the last one
The Cad: he is an antisocial xenophobic (that last part may just be interpretation) jerk who would be extremely happy if _everyone_, except for Duke Lucy, in the YAFGC world went away and never returned! He hates pretty much everyone, _including_ his family: the only reason his mother and half-brother got to stay in the castle was because Lucy used emotional blackmail on him
All those are as Rich wrote them, they may not be a problem for some people, but they are for me, ad if the condition for me remaining is not to call them out on it then it’s time for me to leave, although will be sad not to know the fate of Charlie and Arachne and all the residents of Black Mountain, truly hope this webic continues for another 20 years
Probably should have put this on the Forums, but, don’t have an active email to make an account
Oh, Guesticus, don’t try to drag me into your flouncing or not flouncing about the internet. If you want to ditch this comic because you feel your particular brand of humour isn’t hugely appreciated than that’s your own decision. I won’t stop you. If I reacted like that I’d have stopped drawing YAFGC a long time ago.
You want my approval to mock my characters and storytelling? Okay, I want you to carry on. I want you here, reading my comic every morning. I want you to comment on each and every little nuance of my style and storytelling. Why? Because it means someone wants to see what I do. It justifies my existance as an artist. Something I don’t always feel at my day job where I spend 8 hours a day drawing luke warm, family safe, humourless, pressureless mush with little to no encouragement except a steady impersonal but vital paycheck.
I may not agree with your comments, I may be offended by your tendancy to insult my characters, make up nasty nicknames for them (and I don’t believe for an instant that you use that as a method of remembering their names. Every strip has a cast list on it.). But it doesn’t matter. It’s none of my business how YOU feel about my comic. You’re reading it. You’re part of the community.
Some other readers on here have leaped to my defence out of some sense of loyalty to a friend, but it’s all part of having a community. There will be arguments and debates and that’s okay. Yes, I have vented in a special venting section of the forum about being hurt or annoyed by some comments. They’re not hidden from you. You can always come to the forum and read the posts. Or join in if you want. Have you gone too far? I don’t think so. But I’m only human and sometimes other humans piss me off.
But I’m also not going to coddle anyone or hold anyone’s hand and say there there, it’s okay. If you want to go away and cut us off because you think someone doesn’t like you, then power to you. I’m not the one driving anyone off. I’m not going to ban you or blackball you or anything. Do I think you’re being a dick? Sure. Sometimes. But some of my best friends act like dicks sometimes. And so do I. In fact I’m being one right now. If you want to leave, leave. If you want to stay, stay. But you don’t get to go to some other forum and tell everyone that Rich Morris of "YAFGC" freaked out and banished you because that didn’t happen.
AND for the record, it’s physically possible for you to read the comic and not comment if you want to. After all, the comment section on the updates themselves have only been a feature for the last year or so. So you’ve done it before.
We square?
That’s the thing: don’t believe have ever mocked you, your characters _or_ your storytelling
Not leaving because have been banned or banished, and certainly not going to say was (more likely will say what a great world you have created here and they should check it out), leaving because it’s not comfortable here anymore (and freely admit that it is probably on me)
Just want to explain: other readers had expressed their displeasure towards me, and, as they pointed out, this is _your_ world so was waiting to get your say on the matter
Really not good with words, that’s why usually just post a single or double sentence (that was probably the most have ever typed anywhere, ever, in one post)
As you said, we are square, as have _never_ had a problem with you and have always enjoyed this comic (even if some characters irritate me or don’t like certain events)
Can’t say I would ever have described myself as having had a "problem" with you. Mostly I ignore you, here and elsewhere I’ve run across you.
If you’re going to comment on a webcomic, it should be about that webcomic, not about you. As you move on into the Big Wild Internets and make your own way through the Wilderness … maybe take that consideration to heart.
It really isn’t about you, no matter how tryhard you attempt to make it about you.
Not even defending Rich (specifically); clearly he can & will speak for himself. More generally, I’ve been following various webcomics for about 20 years now. Been in forums a good bit, was even the administrator of one for a few years, and certainly follow a lot of the commentary left by the community. There’s always a few who pop up and seem to forget that it’s not their own personal comic & story.
It’s always a relief to see them move on, hopefully not to bother and poison other decent communities.
Good day, sir.
Wow! This is kinda what was talking about: never claimed it was about me and never commented about another reader unless they commented about me first (if you go back to #2941 you will see an example of another commentator getting personal towards me)
Have _only_ ever commented about the comic and usually the current one
The fact you felt you had to comment (and the comment you made) implies that you _do_ have a problem with me as never mentioned _any_ names
yes, however you imply them. passive aggressive is still aggressive.
honestly though… you’re polite on every other web comic I’ve seen you comment on i follow… really should lose the beef with this one.
Passive Aggressive to whom? o_O
To characters? If don’t like a character, will say so, and not just here
To other readers? Again, tend to leave them alone unless they start on me first (not good with words)
One reason I like this comic so much, is its outlook on people of all kinds, even elves. I think this is well reflected in Rich’s presence on the boards. I will never meet him, but will always respect him.
Much more importantly, I’ll be back regularly to (re)read the comics he draws.
Yes, I like that elves can be evil, and "evil" can be good, and "good" can be condescending and nasty, and that everything is relative to your perspective. Most people are just somewhere in between, trying to survive. 🙂
Hmmm… just tried to make the screen a bit bigger to read the small text… didn’t work. It just came out a bit smeary and even harder to read. Sadly I am legally blind and have a hard time seeing the normal lettering sometimes lol! Any chance the two panels with the smaller printing can be made larger somehow? Or can some nice person with eyes that work can translate please?
http://cowboysandcrossovers.thecomicseries.com/comics/3 Here is the comic from which those panels come from. Maybe this will help
