…I’m actually wondering if what’s going on here has literally knocked the evil right out of the folks of the Black Mountain. Right now we’re seeing tenderness, loyalty, and cameradie – NOT things we’ve seen in any sort of large quantity prior to the current story arc.
They were always evil – entertainingly so, but evil nonetheless. Is the devouring of the gods and the rest of the changes causing everyone to say "yeah, let’s drop the whole "racial alignment" crap and just be people?"
Abject terror of a destructive, omnicidal deity and your entire civilization being erradicated in one massive explosion can kinda shake your perspectives a big. Little things like who’s on top kinda fall by the wayside at that point.
Actually it is more like, just because we see something as evil does not make it evil. The same could be said about good. I think that is why I really do like this comic. Other than the art of course.
maybe but maula never really wanted to be the complete dictator of the mountain. Maybe she wont mind and let Nephilia stay on the throne and just becomes a adviser.
Not to mention, Nephilia is technically part of her family. Just like Maula would expect leadership to pass to her son if she wasn’t around, I imagine she’d want this if neither her or her son were around. And if she comes back… General Bloodhand still has a decent ring to it, doesn’t it?
Besides, Maula is not getting younger. If she wants her people to survive and thrive beyond this generation, she needs a successor she can trust. Glon doesn’t seem to want that kind of power, though he would accept it needed, out of duty. Maybe he and Maula will decide Neph is the right one for the job.
If they are deep in the Underdeep, then they may not realize how much of the mountain that was over their heads is gone as well. Looks like a lot of blocked passages there. Or it might be one of those "the mountain may be gone, but it lives on in our hearts" moments.
What mountain? Why, it’s right over…
Oh, wait a second…It was here a few minutes ago…Alright, who lost the mountain. Time for confessions here, people!
That… is not a lot of people…
Also it makes sense, she IS technically part of the orc royal family.
…Until the still-living Queen Bloodhand returns, that is…
😉
Nice job, Rich, capturing Neph’s abject horror of the moment with just a few tiny penstrokes.
AGREED!!!
VERY, VERY AGREED!!!

I think that has been a bit of a theme all along, in this comic.

When evil seems good, it’s just so that it can be even more evil later on 😀
Oh, Wolf is alive and well.
I’m relieved and happy to have been wrong.
Well…this could get a little awkward when Maula shows up if they’re somehow magically compelled to be loyal to Nephilia.
Still though, glad Wolf and Neph are okay.

Why on earth would they be magically compelled to be loyal to her?
"Queen-under-the-‘crater’."
I love the way she looks simultaneously surprised – like the sudden sound is startling – and *touched*, as though honoured by their devotion.
t!
Under what mountain?
Oh…. I get it. She can’t see and they’re just being nice. Awwwwww

All hail, Queen under the Crater!
