Crazy thought, but… could she be engaging in a Xanatos gambit here? If she wins, she rules. If she dies, then her subjects get to stay because they are now citizens.
That’s risky. The Trog King would be ruler of both groups in that case, but there is nothing to say that he would treat the refugees decently.
Besides dying for the sake of her people seems a little too altruistic for a Drow, even a reasonably ‘nice’ one like Neph. I think she has a devious plan; that is what Drow are good at – and definitely what the audience is hoping for.
I don’t have time to dig into the archives at the moment, but there is at least one strip that demonstrates the ability of Drow to spit venom into someone’s face. Playing field should be leveled rapidly. Nephilia seems to be quite mobile and situationally aware of her surroundings, so I rather trust her confidence in issuing a challenge.
Note she specifically said "leader fights leader", so if she doesn’t have Blind-Fu then she may rules lawyer in Wolf since he’s LEADING her around or is technically "king" since isn’t he married to her?
Most dark elves tend to have the blind fight feat just in case things go south. That does beg a question, mainly because I forgot, can dark elves darkvision see through magical darkness?
That doesn’t seem to be in play here, as Wolf was close up to them without seemingly impaired. As has been stated, Rich doesn’t take D&D rules as gospel, and will change them as needed for his story.
I also have read some stories of another drow (with an unpronounceable name) who came to the surface and became an icon of "good".
One of his abilities was to fight blind (as in total darkness blind)
Always thougt that drow didn’t need sight at all. And if an opponent relies on invisibility, he might even be in disadvantage against a blind adversary.
Above all, they are Monsters… rules exist to break them for from their Point of view
Think for a minute that we currently have 3 declared King/Queens Under the Mountain due to no one knowing who else is alive. If Nephilia adds the Troglodytes I do believe she will have the largest force by far.
He feels he has the physical advantage, so he’s eager for this. She on the other hand wouldn’t make the offer unless she felt she could win.
Drow females – in D&D (and YAFGC merely takes D&D as a suggestion, so take this with a grain of salt) – tend to be powerful clerics and/ or fighters. Most that rise to the rank of of Matriarch – or Queen – have to be able to defend their position from the many other females that want to take that power for themselves – usually over the existing Matriarch’s/ Queen’s dead body (don’t say "over my dead body!" to them, it is redundant as that is part of the plan) – so Neph is *probably* quite capable of putting up a good fight.
Heck, if she took lessons from Arachne, it may actually be a very short fight.
And of course if Neph knows were Maula is, it would be "yeah, go find the Orc Warrior Queen, who will happily remove your head and use it as a chamber pot".
Wait, is she still… is she over being blind?
She’s a Drow queen, and a devious bitch at that if you recall. I think she’ll win quite handily. 😛
Okay, there’s got to be a ‘queen’s champion’ clause in this law somewhere…

Neph honey, you’re still blind.
I hope there’s some sort of loophole that allows her to appoint Wolf. Or that beholder fellow.
Trolling a troglodyte, Master Class level.

As far as I can recall, only Arachne has shown this particular skill. Maybe something to do with her being in that order?

Her mother taught her.

I’m thinking even if he is, it’s a Duke of Edinburgh/Travis Morgan kind of thing.
t!
Maybe maula has been giving her lessons ?
Drow society is matriarchal. The males would never, ever, in any circumstance be referred to as leading females in anything.
These may be trying times, but this is a core foundation of Drow life. I doubt Neph would do away with it now.
If Wolf does end up fighting for her, she’ll have a much trickier/better reason for it than claiming a male is her leader.
He's Nephilia's king consort. Even though he's male, he still outranks many of the females.
King consort is the title that Wolf was explicitly promised a while back.
And he was given it.
i remember at least one strip he was actually referred to as the king consort.

No, Magical Darkness blocks all forms of vision except Truesight.
I also remember them having the racial ability to project globes of magical darkness, so yes, the smart ones all learn to blind-fight
LOVE Wolf’s expression in Panel 2.
t!
It’s the face of "yup, that’s my queen, she’s a badass".
And also the face of "taking this place by force would be a good time".
Ah, killing all the trogs and taking their homes. Good times. 😀
Well, whether troglodytes can be semi invisible will be no advantage if the opponent is blind 😀
And if I was a troggy I’d want to make sure she didn’t have long sleeves cause she’s definitely got something up one of them.
don’t troglodytes smell pretty bad? maybe she doesn’t need vision!

Well, not if they’re Lawful Evil.
Now this just got very interesting!

That last panel… Add eyes on the hump, and the existing eyes look like nostrils on a wide flat nose.
