Oh yeah… forgot the Rannites brought packs of Deinonychus with them…
(Velociraptors are actually the size of a turkey, the JP ones are Deinonychus. Crichton changed the name in the book as Velociraptor sounded more dramatic.)
So the bigger ones are named after a robot with a head shaped like a soccer ball. Hmmm…

The ‘robot with a head shaped like a soccer ball’ he’s on about would appear to be the Red Dwarf character Kryten, who’s named after the eponymous character from J M Barrie’s ‘The Admirable Crichton’… who has the same last name as the Jurassic Park author.
No, I don’t know how he got to that from what Alyx actually said.
I got it from a misreading of the above post. Missed the period in "Deinonychus. Crichton" and assumed that was the whole name of the dinosaur. Still, it prompted some interesting responses 😀

Pretty sure those were established as Troodon, not Deinonychus.
Well, there is a variant called Utahraptor that is the same size as the raptors in Jurassic Park.
