It’s just how she’s going "well yeahhh he was kind of a jerk, but I still can’t let him die." It just feels like the "excuses" of someone who has been abused a lot and is just used to going "oh no, it was my fault not the person who beat me."
We don’t know her entire background, but it’s how it feels like it. And if Elgin was abusive (could just be verbal and not physical), the moment Cadugan decided to put a stop to it, he could instantly be going "that boy is rebellious and I don’t like it."
Then again, it seems to suit Flannet’s character. She’s just a genuinely nice person. And I’m not sure if she would allow someone to abuse her, as she’s a kickass archer and also quite savvy when she meets a true asshole – see her dealing with Niko.
‘Kay … did NOT see that one coming. Actually, seems like his death wasn’t quite horrible enough. Flannet is even more of a dear than I’d previously thought.
Also, if the Ghosts of Greyfort can just decide to implement the curse all on their own, sure seems Niko had better go on a fast & sudden trip to Far, Far Away some time about last night. Also also, awful polite of Lady Anadora to knock first.
Okay, Glitterbranch is safe, as she already had Cadugan with her when she first legally married. I hope Muc was too far gone to recover when that signature finished though. What a nasty piece of work. And it sounds like she has yet another child! I hope he grew up more like his mother then his father, and that his father’s death will allow her to see him again. Looks like we are going to have a number of episodes of the various marriages and exploits of Flannet. Should be interesting. The satyr should be fine, they aren’t the marrying kind.
The Curse: "The first one lives in the castle? I should go around and show my appreciation of making this easy on me." *knocks on door* "Greyfort Curseagram!!!"
I’m good with that. Or maybe it’s like a red light. You’re already committed to crossing the junction so if it turns red just as you cross it’s too late to stop.
Confused the hell out of me because i thought the left hand panels were memories (not paying attention to the mention of duchess) with a young Flannet. Must not read these too later at night…
The curse is moving fast. It at least lasted 9 months for the case of the lady who married two dudes…maybe it takes into account how long people have been married?
Also I admit since the curse came from elves I was not expecting a human skeleton specter.
Behind the scenes:
"Quick, hit this one with the curse! I’ll delay her."
"He dead."
[Signs document]
I suspect that Lady Anadora was the first baroness hit with the Curse, and now the agent of it.
The first spouse hit by the curse would have been Baroness Grisilda Greyfort. http://yafgc.net/comic/0847-curse-or-no-curse/
Maybe all the spouses hit by the curse became agents of it… I wonder though, how did the first one die.
On a side-note: I like how this strip was built up, with the parallel storytelling. 🙂
I wonder if this "rebellious phase" includes Cadugan trying to protect his mother from an abusive asshol
Nice take. My first reaction was *Wait – this is a phase?* Albeit mothers are prone to mistake personality for phases 😉
I now want to read teenage Cadugan fanfic – can someone oblige?

Love Panel 9.
The classics never go out of style.
t!
I like a good knock knock joke too.

Satyr? When was Flannet with a Satyr?
When she got pregnant with Taidor.
that makes me wonder if she knows about Taidors death and sacrifice
I believe Cadugan said he told her.
Cadugan was going to go see her when they got back. In fact, I think that’s how she and Charles got introduced.
She and Charles were introduced at Lucas and Cadugan’s wedding, long after that.
There was also a fisherman, but I don’t know if she was married to him.
She was.

He would have been her most recent spouse, excluding Niko.
Two different humans? I thought she was trying to collect the set.
The true sign of a good person? He or she tries to save even the bad ones.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy
Eek, when ghostly turns ghastly!
Flannet can’t let THAT guy die horribly.
The woman is a saint.
The Curse: "The first one lives in the castle? I should go around and show my appreciation of making this easy on me." *knocks on door* "Greyfort Curseagram!!!"
Well technically the first one is in the same bed.
Cadugan, Charles, Caradoc, Taidor.
*sings* " one of these things is not like the others…."
Yeah, "Charles" doesn’t sound anything like the others. Maybe his dad named him.
Ooooh. So close. Gotta work a little faster on that paperwork.
Is there some kind of forfeit for a ghost that kills someone for a curse that no longer applies?
Maybe she just killed him because he was an asshole?

Slightly alternate, condensed dialogue for panels 2, 4 & 6:
Flannet: "The first guy we’ve got to save is Elgin Muc."
Owen: "You’re joking. Lord Elgin Muc? Legal advisor and asshole extraordinaire?"
Flannet: "Well, yeah. He’s maybe not all THAT nice, but …"
Lady Anadora to Baron Robert: "Hold my beer."
It will be interesting to find out if the ghosts enacting the curse are from the castle contingent, or are separate.
Well, she tried.
And I think the world can be happy that she failed.

I think the Curse Revenant is working a lot faster in this case as Flannet has (at least) 4 sons to inherit the title of Baron.
(And going by the number of children for husbands plus Niko…)
*sings*
"Five Husbands on the Block!
Five Husbands Ooooo!!
Number one shouldn’t have answered that knock!
Four Husbands on the Block!!"
