On a personal level, I completely understand.
Bad news: he has just made it clear to all and sundry that he isn’t cut out to be king. To the point where I’d put odds on widely-supported murder attempts if he ever tries again.
The job calls for wrenching decisions, in succession, without limit. If you can’t put the needs of the role and of those around you above the personal stuff, well, there’s always an illustrious career in adventuring.
His mom was going to arrive. A king finishes his job, sends runners, and prepares everyone to welcome the queen with royal ceremony. While quietly taking steps to ensure everything is genuine. As a side benefit, he not only retains the respect of those watching – he doesn’t get easily assassinated by a set-up that uses some simple illusions.

That’s kinda human moral and ceremonial though. Not sure if it applies to orc kings.
There is also the possibility that the orcs are far too happy to see maula back again to care. Even in the earliest comics, it had been made clear that she is very important to the orcs even before she became queen. also, they did not just get their queen back but also a strong tactical force against the rannites.
…or possibly too _scared_ to see Maula back to care. A number of orcs have previously learned the hard way that "nice" is not the same as "soft".
It’s true. Glon has many sterling qualities, but he’s NOT cut out to be king.
His wives, fortunately, are cut out to be queens. If Glon were to get himself assassinated through surfeit of sentiment, the gals would mourn, but carry on ruling, and ruling well.
(And besides, most of the non-Bloodhand natural leaders from Black Mountain are with the Drow contingent now. In the crowd currently assembled here, who is qualified to oppose Glon, or to rule in his stead? They were all sharing the podium with him.)

The only problem is, if I recall his last appearance correctly, the Rannites have Gren held captive, and he is being forced to do something for them, or she is tortured to death. And there are snakes hiding in Meegs hair.
Has Maula’s hair changed colour?
A while ago, I believe.

The Rannites are in for some real problems now.
At least now Glon realizes that it will take more than dropping a mountain on his mom to do her in…She’s a tough one, she is.
But that’s a thought for Glon to ponder at another time. He’s understandly preoccupied with other revelations right now.

I thought Meegs died.
Probably would’ve been a better fate.
If I recall correctly, there are snakes hiding in that hair… and her glasses are serving a dual purpose.
Meegs was ‘broken" by the Rannites (who didn’t even have to try very hard) and turned into a gorgon. As far as I remember, she still is; that non-herpetological hair on her head is a wig.
She’s no longer loyal to the Rannites because…well, she never was, really. Meegs doesn’t DO loyalty, to anyone but Meegs.
Who says it’s a wig? I think Rich even said it’s random how much hair and snakes you get. Also who says Meegs was broken? We’ve already seen Rannites do forced conversions and I believe nothing has been said about how Meegs became a Gorgon.
I don’t think anything’s been said about her not being loyal to the Rannites anymore.

"Things work out", huh?.. I’m still gonna worry about Ranna’s takeover, Gren and Bob’s situation, and Arachne’s death.
I am reminded of how many times your players whined that things were hard for their PCs.
Never – NEVER – understanding that the point of hardship is to create moments like this.

Damn, he’s wearing full plate, and yet he can still move like his life depends on it. If the warrior-king thing doesn’t work out, he should consider going into world class running events.
Plate armor is actually fairly easy to move in, the whole ‘knights were basically helpless turtles and had to be helped onto horses’ thing is mostly a myth. The weight is distributed across the entire body, so while it can be somewhat heavy it easily allows you to still be quite athletic. Provided the armor fits. There’s videos of people doing cartwheels and stuff in it on youtube :X
Typical plate harness weighs *less* than what modern soldiers typically carry – *much* less if they are carrying a heavy load.
He’s always been capable of anything when properly motivated…

This. This will always be one of my favorite strips, not just of the sweet moments of yafgc, but of all, and not just of yafgc’s, but the other one’s i’ve read. Not just the emotion (although that should go without saying) but the sensations of movement, of worry/fear that it is not her after all, the realization it is, the deep hug… so well done. Thank you.
This isn't a moment when Maula is Queen & it isn't a moment when Glon is king. It's a moment when a mother & son that thought they had lost each other are reunited. It's a moment when kingdom doesn't exist & neither does the threat of Ranna.
Never hug your mom first, when your wife is right there.
