This story is turning out to be a perfect example of the Humiliation Congo, and it really couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. If anything, Kurassa deserves far worse.
It is good to see that Calif Tambid isn’t weakened or otherwise suffering from being a tree so long that he forgot how his muscles work. The jerk deserved that slug!
And another unrelated thought: we saw in the past hints that Tambid was aware of what was going around him when he let a leaf fall on Adina’s head as a pat of approval. I wonder how much of the Rannite’s plans he overheard when they thought they were alone under the big tree?
Nope. He does not deserve to go back in the mirror – that would be pointless cruelty. Let's try a different punishment this time and see if it is more effective 🙂
Yeah, gonna need to either get that last bit out of Kurassa somehow (or force Kurassa to undo the curses, but that’s so risky), or have someone else figure it out.
The only remaining high level wizard left is… Eddy! They are dooooomed!!!
Meegs could have done it, except, she’s stoned, whereas Eddy is simply high all the time
Eddy, like Kurassa, is the classic high-int, low-wis type. He could probably crack the encryption puzzle, once someone clues him in that it IS a puzzle, and not just a useless botched ritual.
If he’s too stubborn to grasp that, though, Morgana was last seen hanging out with Eddy, and packs serious magical mojo of her own. And there are plenty of smart lower-level mages and scholars on the cast who could help with the decryption, and pull in someone with raw power only for the final curse breaking.
He doesn’t say out loud the bit about the ingredients, however forensic analysis of the ingredients on the table and in the wand he just broke, compared to ingredient lists in the book, should allow to find that out.
I suspect Kurassa did expect this, but also knows he can convince a good person to work with him against a greater evil. And then AFTER the good person has served their purpose… well, Kurassa has evidenced patience already.
Well it worked so that’s good news. The bad news is now Tambid is going to have to work with Kurassa if he ever wants to get his daughter back (and with luck undo the curses on the rest of the gorgonized victims). A difficult choice for anyone, let alone a father. Looking forwards to seeing Ranna’s power crumble.
Thanks for the comic Rich, and Merry Christmas 😀
Not exactly: that "Related Comics" list cross references the ‘Characters’ and ‘Location’ tags, which means the comics listed may feature one of the characters but not the other, or the same location but neither character
Instead of some random comic that barely connects to this page, having links to pages that _directly_ reference this page would be nice ie to when Tambid was turned into a tree
Agreed that the size can be daunting to finding a specific reference point, although some of us use that as an excuse to archive binge 😀 Often people will add in the specific comic link, especially if asked, partly because nobody has a clue how the "related" comics relate sometimes! As for making that many links, that’d be an immense amount of work…
If you find a specific character on the cast page, it will list the comics they are in, or should. So if you want a specific part of a certain arc, look up the rarer characters that appear in it and that should give you some good places to start.
Oh, and the listing in the cast page only gives the first and latest appearance, it is when you click their name that you get pages listing all the comics they were in. However, the "Previous" and "Newer" buttons at the bottom of the page seem to have their effects reversed.
Another useful tip is that once you start paging through the appearances with "previous" and "newer", you can change the page number by hand in the url rather than making your way through page after page to reach the most recent appearances.
This page here, sows that Kur is _not_ the one responsible for the curse, or he wouldn’t have needed to look through a book he didn’t prior have possession of to _break_ the curse
Doesn’t that depend on how the magic system works in yafgc? i’ve known some worlds where doing and undoing are two entirely different spells, even for the same caster
Go back to when it started, read what Vanessa said about breaking curses
I could be wrong, but don’t think so, it wouldn’t be the first time a god or goddess set something up ahead of things going sour
Vanessa said that they are simple but tricky. that they’d have to learn all they could before an attempt. and then it shows kurassa grinning evilly outside. am i missing another section you are referring to? so hard to recall everything lol
Also, Kurassa’s goal here is not to break the curse on the Caiiph; it’s to do a trial run for breaking the curse on Sahar. Even if his original curse has a "backdoor" that would let him break it easily, he wouldn’t use that back door because he’s testing a different de-cursing method.
while all his grins ARE evil, i agree, there are many times he isn’t grinning, evilly or no. i meant that combined with what kurassa said prior, that he is outside and grinning (evilly), i think it shows he cast the original spell. not that vanessa or anyone else would know that, obviously.
Probably, personally feel he was just taking advantage of a prime opportunity (but yeah, everything does point to the second most incompetent magician in their world being the one to cast one of the most powerful non-Deity transformation spells)
Haha, guess he wasn't expecting Tambid to know what was going on. I bet he was expecting him to be confused and think it was still ten years ago (or however long ago it was he was treed).
This is not Kurassa’s day, is it? lol
Merry Christmas, Rich, your family, and all of the friends on here who celebrate! Thank you for the fun 🙂
Yup, he went and did it. He might be thinking that no good deed goes unpunished, but that last panel is definitely for his past evil acts.
Wow – one of you fans called it!
I did!
So, what was it you were saying about him not being that dumb?
Was wrong, but very happily wrong 😀
Best kind of wrong! 😀
He was very smart to decode the instructions. He was just very unwise to use it the way he did. INT=17, WIS = 6.

He did get far worse when he was stuck in the mirror, tormented by his inner demons for who knows how long.
However, since he didn’t emerge from that as a reformed man, but instead remained just as evil as before, then he deserves to get it again.
Nope. He does not deserve to go back in the mirror – that would be pointless cruelty. Let's try a different punishment this time and see if it is more effective 🙂
He kind of deserved that & the black eye goes well with the swell on his nose.
Kurassa is a fine example of the difference between Intelligence and Wisdom.
Anyone else worried or concerned about the family reunion?
Welcome back, Tambid, and way to go! Bravo!
Thank you, Richard, for a great Christmas present with this comic. Wishing you and yours, and everyone the happiest of holidays.
Oh, damn. While he’s saying out loud how the characters are transposed, he’s thinking about what page the components are listed.
Even if Tambid was able to hear what Kurassa was saying, he’ll have missed an important part of how to reverse the curse.
Yeah, gonna need to either get that last bit out of Kurassa somehow (or force Kurassa to undo the curses, but that’s so risky), or have someone else figure it out.

And now, by whatever trope that is, Vanessa has to die when they finally reunite. Because no major character is ever allowed to have both parents.
Sez who? Tropes were written to be subverted, not pandered to
I’m joking. Hopefully.
Hoping it won’t be the case here as well

Maybe you guys should take a page from some other webcomics and tag each comic with links to previous comics that they reference.
I love this comic but the fact is you have over 3000 comics and it’s hard to remember everything.
You mean like the ‘Related Comics’ list right under the comic and above the comments? 😉
Happy Christmas
Umm.. Yeah. I’m apparently very dumb.

1458 was the bolt of magic, 1459 the result, and Reflections in the Sand the chapter, if that helps any 🙂

In past, I though the "related comics" are it. If they are, they are not really selected well …

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and may your next year be better than the last.
Thanks for sharing the comic Rich 🙂
Merry Christmas, everyone!
And thank you Rich, that even on days like today, you still upload your comic!
Well thats a fine "thank you" or being a tree he has learned much
Merry Christmas, Rich, and thank you for this wonderful comic.
I love this.

When has Kur ever _not_ grinned evilly? o_O

Could be. Was Ranna awake yet? I didn’t think so, but could very well be wrong. 🙂 and lol at the description!
Mucat- that’s a very good point about the spell casting. thanks! 🙂
Another perfect example of his arrogance. Dude who hates his living guts appears before him, and he’s only interested in his own success.
t!
