Did you mean "wish each other luck"?
Ah crap. You know I read the strip twice through after typing it to try to avoid making mistakes like that and it still got by me.
No worries. It helped distract me, from how heart wrenching, things are getting.
Poor kid – adventuring and battling the forces of EVIL ™ isn’t all sunshine and roses. I love how we’ve come from one punchline a day to these character driven moments where we literally watch generations grow and mature <3
Congrats on another -00 milestone 🙂
Thank you! Thank you very much! I really enjoy the generational feel myself and I love letting the characters have their day and earn their retirement and so on.
Umm, why is Helen and Naomi splitting off more painful than Ryann thought it would be?
Thought she had a crush on Cypress
Because Ryann wants to hate Helen, but keeps finding that she can’t. See, for example, https://www.yafgc.net/comic/3243-so-confused/
So now, when she ought to be saying good riddance to Helen and be glad to have Cypress to herself, she’s instead worried for her friend who she might never see again.
Thank you, thought it might be something like that, but wasn’t sure, and was taught: if you don’t understand something, ask
Thank you from me too.
I don’t use usually english and i was having difficult to understand this
Right in the feels with this one. The shot of Ryann hugging herself at the end there is hard to take.
Sure, you can go the whole "Certain death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?" route, when you’re pumping yourself up, but when it comes down to it…who wouldn’t feel nervous in a situation like this (aside from the obviously/obliviously Evil, true undead, etc. who aren’t big on self-reflection…)?
Courage, Ryann. You’re a decent hobbit at heart, and all this is going to sort itself out.
She’s not hugging herself. She’s hugging either Naomi or Helen, not sure which.
Helen. You can tell by the hat.
D’OH! Thanks for putting me straight (*facepalm*).
Still got me in the feels–even though my eyesight sucks. 😉
Kiddo, you’re going off to WAR. What did you THINK it was going to be like? Le sigh.
It was the _parting_ that is hurting more than she thought it would, as mucat explained above: she wants to hate Helen for doing what she didn’t have the courage to do herself, but knowing that they may never see each other again (one or the other) is hurting more than she thought
You know, that whole "Parting is such sweet sorrow" bit
Not to mention, she IS a kid, as you said. It may be that it she can’t really conceive of her friends getting hurt if she can see them, be with them. And who knows (besides Rich) how much time she’s ever spent away from access to her friends?
Plus they’ve been shielded from the realities of ranna’s reign, and so haven’t HAD to think about losing people cared about.
i know overall, Ranna’s rule will end, somehow, to lead to a new era, and that helps some. And i really respect-and trust- Rich’s storytelling. But because he IS a good storyteller, I know people will die. And i respect him all the more for that- to kill off characters he’s cared about, and to not cave under the pressure of "please save so-and-so". But damn it’s gonna hurt
WOW
do I get a strong sense from this that not everyone is coming back.
t!
If even Arachne can die, why should the kids be any safer?
Unless they are the ‘Glenn’ of the group, in which case, everyone else dies but they manage to survive (hated Glenn, was happy when he finally met Lucille)
I’m not talking about the rules of the universe.
I’m talking about the execution of the (possible) foreshadowing, and the sense of dread created.
