Love that last panel. It’s a good thing Saidrah has (I assume) demigod strength–it must be quite a burden to hold that shield with such a giant chip on your shoulder as well. 😉
Let’s see, dinosaurs, Godzilla, dragons, hydra. Hmm, where is the chimera? Either of the ones we have seen, <a href="https://www.yafgc.net/comic/1600-calling-in-the-specialist/">male</a> or <a href="https://www.yafgc.net/comic/2931-the-party-splits-up/">female</a>, maybe <a href="https://www.yafgc.net/comic/1409-someday-somewhere-somehow-4/">both</a>, but that could get distracting for the guys.
What we really need is for a particular kobold sailor to be whispering ideas into Ranna’s ear. Such chaos should drive her functionally insane.
That certain kobold sailor should be riding Godzooky. Between that and whispering in Ranna’s ear, if that doesn’t drive her to complete distraction, nothing will.
We haven’t seen Chimera since the Black Mountain exploded. I really hope is turning up one point again! :S
There are others missing too. Bob and the beholders, the mages, all those who sailed here from Drostardy and from the North, Goldwolf and his party…
I wonder, if Kob is here, than Brandon is here as well?
I think the mages are intentionally nowhere in sight, to spring a surprise once the fighting starts. (Either a direct battlefield surprise, or a strike at Ranna on some other level while the battle keeps her busy.)
The naval reinforcements — Drostardy, Safana and crew, and Goldwolf and crew — might be a surprise even to the good guys, though. I wonder if Vanessa will be proud or displeased that her youngest kid found a way into the thick of things once again.
It sounds like magic is a finite resource on this world and if the mages combine and tap a huge pool of magic, it seems there would not be enough left to keep Rannas undead army animated.
You haven’t read far enough back, there is a detailed explanation of how that happened. *dry chuckle* Ranna (while she was still riding Charlotte) forced a priestess/sorceress and some other tribal magic users to merge various prehistoric creatures (dinosaurs) from a secluded jungle where mutagenic/shape-changing magic was running rampant into a mighty beast to be her steed. She rode in a… the word escapes me, a carriage attached on top of the giant reptile… on the journey to go get her original body back.
Ha, I can’t wait to see how this will shake out!
But say, is it me, or is Ranna missing her wings from the second panel onwards?
Or at least in the third panel – she might have folded them away in panels 2, 4 and 5?
I don’t know about the new ones, but in the original he wasn’t really a "bad guy." He was a force of nature brought upon the world by nuclear radiation. He was basically just a giant nuclear tornado that you could shoot at… and shot/stomped/etc. back. Calling him a villain is a stretch.
Good catch on Kob! He and Brandor (and Brandor’s gorgon buddy — I hope she’s alive and well and non-mind-slaved these days) are among my favorite minor characters.
Sorry, but Rannageddon will have to be postponed as gatherings of more than 250 individuals are being halted until after this global health scare is over. Please return to your dungeons and await further instruction.
*Courier comes running up carrying a parcel* "Delivery for Ranna!"
*Ranna looks done, confused* "I’m Ranna. What is in the parcel."
*Courier reads the label* "It appears to be ‘One Petard’. Please sign here."
[Cue theme from "Jaws." When Ranna opens the door, we see Captain Fang astride Godzooky. When Fang says, "Starfish are pointy!" music switches to "Yakkety Sax." From there on Ranna is on her own.]
Such a low-cost modus operandi, casual dismissal. Costs Ranna (and those seeking to be like her) next to nothing, but is occasionally super-effective. Like scattering weed killer, bought in bulk on discount, I suppose…you never know when it’ll crit one’s belief in oneself. I see her line of reason, but I agree with you, when this approach fails, it fails gloriously and spectacularly…and I expect such a failure may lie ahead, possibly even in the near future.
"The final battle for Rannite possesion of the Northrealm…"
Rich, what does that mean as far as how much of the rest of the world is in Ranna’s control? Is the rest of the YAFGC world in her possession, or is this the only part of the world she has far been able to dominate?
When scholars talk about ages, like the current Dark Age, are they scholars who view things solely from an Elegrost, Drostardy point of view? What’s happening on the other side of the world? Are they in a Dark Age, too? Is Ranna all that powerful right now, or is she still working on building up that "manna" that gives her her godly powers?
For some reason, possibly because of the amulet from the last strip, I confused the meanings of fulcrum and phylactery and was briefly confused about why Ranna would have one of those
Great nna be some fireworks soon.
And so it begins…
Love that last panel. It’s a good thing Saidrah has (I assume) demigod strength–it must be quite a burden to hold that shield with such a giant chip on your shoulder as well. 😉
Hmm, will Saidrah switch sides? Or at least inconvenience her mother?
Well, if she IS an incarnation of evil, and the evil thing to do would be to switch sides…
Ranna needs a bitch slapping, mind you people will die here

Yes!! My Boo will swoop in and save the day with pickled cauliflower cookies and smoked raisin gumdrops!!
Hope crap. Capn Fang could take on the whole Rannite army, by himself.
SQUEEEE! i LOVVVED godzooky!! my best friend and i in 3rd grade used to pretend we were godzilla and godzooky! thank you so much for the reminder!!
You’re welcome. 🙂

I have a suspicion about where Goldwolf and Party might be heading…
Also if Ranna is here, who’s watching Ch’thier?
Erm…
Godzilla?

A howdah. Usually used on elephants. I guess Not-Zilla was feeling a bit peckish and had a snack.
Ha, I can’t wait to see how this will shake out!
But say, is it me, or is Ranna missing her wings from the second panel onwards?
Or at least in the third panel – she might have folded them away in panels 2, 4 and 5?
Nah, she just placed herself conveniently before one of her dragon / wyvern followers in panel 1 to look cool.
Godzila evil?! No way
Lol, I just came to comments to ask the same question. Maybe he leads a double life – he wasn’t exactly treated nicely by humans.
Originally Godzilla was the villain in his first two or three films… If I remember correctly.
Also the recent Godzilla film (Shin Godzilla) he’s the bad guy again.
That explanation kinda went out the window when they later revealed he’s fully sapient and knows exactly what he’s doing.
I see a great defeat.
And I see a temporary inconvenience.
It’s all a matter of perspective.
Need a rousing speech from Glon.
Great start for the epic part of this battle.
Kob the Minotaur? There’s a name we haven’t seen in a while. Is Brandor "Firehair" the Barbarian around there, too?
Good catch on Kob! He and Brandor (and Brandor’s gorgon buddy — I hope she’s alive and well and non-mind-slaved these days) are among my favorite minor characters.
In terms of brute force, the Rannites do have the advantage.
In terms of guile, I doubt the undead army have much to work with.

I think you have the wrong globe. Nice try, though. 😀
With all the travel bans in effect they shouldn’t be showing up any time soon ;P

YES!!!
This is followed with the entrance of the Keystone Kobold Kops throwing a gazillion custard pies.
I’ll leave it to Rich to find a place for the Morris Sennett Bathing Beauties.
For those who are wondering what the heck this pooka is talking about, do a search for Mack Sennett and the Keystone Kops.
I think you’re my spirit pooka here, T-Chall. I love those movies, grew up watching all the classics.
I think we all wish T-Chall were our spirit pooka, deep down. You are most fortunate, Fang FanGirl!
Oh, thank you so much Fang FanGirl and Rancourt. That is most kind of you. I’m happy to be anyone’s spirit pooka. Warmest wishes to everyone.
Wow. It’s really easy to see where the Gorgons get their self-destructive arrogance from.
t!
Like mother, like daughters

Not so much the dismissal, but certainly the arrogance, has already cost them that one fortress in the Goblin Lands.

I messed up the first part of my question to Rich. I had meant to as about how much of the rest of the world is in Ranna’s control.
For some reason, possibly because of the amulet from the last strip, I confused the meanings of fulcrum and phylactery and was briefly confused about why Ranna would have one of those
