Aside from all his good traits? Guys had a great track record right up until he made one stupid decision to try and save his girlfriend/fiancé (I forget how far along they were).
Add me to the list of this is a ruse on Runt’s part, inspired by what Turg said to him. Judging from Turg’s reaction, that adds some confidence to that idea.
That’s what I’m hoping for, anyway. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Lady Moorish (who isn’t credited, by the way, Rich) looks shocked. Sir Aiden looks flabbergasted. Eddie looks mad. But Turg is smiling, and maybe even a little impressed.
Nope. Runt believes he is king. At every turn, his ‘subjects’ refused to do what he said. The fact that nobody followed him to rescue Alaria and Turg humiliated him for taking his son, I believe that Runt has completely surrendered to rage and believes that backing Ranna will allow him to get revenge on all the ungrateful ‘traitors’.
Runt as a character has never come across as sympathetic. When he appears, it’s merely to advance a storyline. Poor Runt just can’t catch a break. Guess we’ll all find out soon enough.
I was thinking it was just anger on Turg’s part that had him leaving Runt behind…but that expression on Turg’s face is making me question that…and he shown himself to be very clever before, even for a Minotaur (who tend to be shown as brutes…but occasionally get depicted by some authors as having surprisingly deep and quick minds)…who has been making children with a Spinx (a record of family game night is probably something riddle traders and bards would consider worth at least as much as all that dangerous magic they guard).
That little smile that he has on his lips suggests that it really was a plan. Which is a nice development for the guy, a sign that loving a sphinx and being a father has taught him well.
Or he just thinks it’s funny. Runt endangered his kid, whether Runt is actually doing something smart or has turned for real and is about to get killed is probably win/win in Turg’s book.
Depends on if his wife gets mad at him for this or not. Really hard to have some real consequences when you’re a kick-ass Minotaur and your wife is a sphinx. Especially if it works.
Everyone else in the list you just gave has united against Ranna. If Turg’s actions ended up throwing Ranna a big advantage, they would ALL be mad at him.
However, I am cautiously optimistic that Runt has a plan here, and that Ranna won’t like it.
Yes, that’s how it’s been from the start, he and the others from Black Mountain are still ‘evil monsters’, and, as such, will have different ‘morals’ to the humans and elves, even if they are fighting on the same side
"I have arrived to serve the cause. Oh, and incidentally, some Oracle from a place called Delphi left a message for you about destroying a vast Empire."
A few strips ago (https://www.yafgc.net/comic/3321-surge/), Lewie was telling all the mages to get to their places. I’m assuming the Azure Osprey was where Eddy was supposed to go.
If Runtherd is leading the forces from Elegrost Castle, who is defending Elegrost in case this goes bad for Ranna?
Assuming not all the protaganists are here (haven’t seen Glitterbranch, Lucas, Cadugan or The Fox yet), freeing previously guarded strongholds would be beneficial.
Lucas and Cadugan were seen leading a good portion of the anti-Ranna Elgrost forces meeting up with the forces led by Glon, and the dwarves, on the way to the ‘Ranna stomping party’ as I believe the dwarf put it. 🙂 So they are likely there somewhere. I think Glitterbranch and his sister were last seen at Ranna’s city? Not sure where they are now. Wasn’t the Fox at the temple of Ch’Thier last we saw? I may be wrong about that, but if so, he should be somewhere with that contingent.
Runt is a tragic character. There’s not a lot to like about him.
Aside from all his good traits? Guys had a great track record right up until he made one stupid decision to try and save his girlfriend/fiancé (I forget how far along they were).
A one-sided crush, I think.
Yeah, cause she promptly went and married the guy who *did* save her
My money’s on this being a gambit on the part of Runt. Possiby hoping to sabotage the Rannite effort from the inside.
Though from Turg’s reaction…was that his intention for Runt or is he just surprised?
I’m betting on gambit as well. His sudden conversion and Turg’s little smile suggest it was what he had hoped for.
It was definitely Turg’s intention but I think he’s surprised a lot that Runt actually did it.
Thats how I would read it too. But lets see.

You see a smile on his lips? I see wide-eyes and a raised right eyebrow in shock and surprise
*looks again*
On Turg? I’m not seeing what you are.
Lady Moorish (who isn’t credited, by the way, Rich) looks shocked. Sir Aiden looks flabbergasted. Eddie looks mad. But Turg is smiling, and maybe even a little impressed.
She is not the only one. Runt, Turg and Eddy are not credited either.

I hope there are some actual *consequences* about to land on Turg for this

You forget: Turg is an ‘evil’ monster, just like the orcs, goblins, drow, etc.
He only went along with this because Vanessa and her family asked him, and then he only went to Elegrost Castle to get his kid back

In this strip, evil = good and ahole = bad.

That’s always been this strips charm, that it doesn’t take itself too seriously and is willing to have a laugh.
This is where Turg says "Guilty as charged.".
Gotta say, Runt’s men look good in stilettoes 😀
Ah yes, he’d do more damage if he was on the enemy side. So Turg has hope.
suspicious wording there, watch out Ranna :-p
Indeed.
"I have arrived to serve the cause. Oh, and incidentally, some Oracle from a place called Delphi left a message for you about destroying a vast Empire."
It just occured to me… How is Eddy here? Wasn’t he in Ch’Thier’s Tomb a moment ago?
Wizards, gotta love teleporting after using a scrying spell.
Better hope he finished whatever preparations were needed just so he could distract himself to yell at a Minotaur

And seems to be the Good Guys’ strong point so far

Turg’s body language vs. Ranna’s pretty much tells you who’s got the upper hand at the moment.
t!
Eeeeeyup.
Methinks both Runtherd and the Hyeesha are gonna do surprise leg sweep on Ranna.
For people who – like me – suffer from bad memory, here is the conversation between Turg and Runtherd:

(Sorry, I don’t know whether it’s possible to post an actual link instead of the URL)

Guess this WordPress theme doesn’t allow HTML.
I’m gonna need a scorecard!
All I can see is Ranna defeated, bonhomie all around, and Runt ruining the mood by running Turg through.
