3340 The Light Turns On
Sorry this was late. I had it in the buffer for about a week but last night I noticed some spelling errors.
I was also playing D&D last night so I didn’t get around to fixing them until this morning.
Last night’s game was a hoot. I’m playing a sorcerer (5e) and rolled pretty badly on my magic attacks during combat that I triggered a wild magic surge and turned into a potted plant for a turn. It was pretty hilarious. Real YAFGC material there.

Who knows – you might sneak a potted plant into the background of some scene…
"No, damn it, not that! I wanted a Bud Light!"
Dang it T-Chall! Stay outta my brain!
Hmm, given that Lolth seems to be a bit the worse for wear, I wonder if that is holey light. If it is, it might do a number on the undead.
I suspect your DM may have read the Hitchhiker’s Guide series. *dry chuckle* That is a great twist to throw into a game though.
He definitely has, but I rolled it myself on the wild magic chart in the Player’s Handbook.
Lolth is still a drow, so affected by light just like the rest of the poor chargrilled drow on the battlefield
Yeah, I hope Nephilia and Wolf and company find some shade to dive into. Not to mention Sittica, if she’s on the scene too.
Hmm…an (unlikely) twist would be if the drow allergy to bright light were psychosomatic. Nephilia can’t see the light, so she calmly goes about her business while everyone else curses and smoulders…
That kinda means that Ranna had better hurry up and chow down on drow flambé if she still wants to take what meager powers Lolth has and add them to her own….
but then won’t Ranna get sunlight allergy too?
Great balls and fire!
Is there anyone able to wield a Divine Weapon? One just dropped, who is going to Roll for it?
Can’t be many who are 40 foot high and have opossable thumbs
Picks up sword.
Tries to walk.
You are encumbered.
Just let me reorder my itinerary. There must be a way…
You have to discard all those potatoes, cabbages, and empty pots you’re carrying around.
I mean, if I drink these 200 extra strength potions I just happen to have in my bag of holding, maybe I can wield this 666,666 weight weapon for 30 seconds.
Maybe Lotharia can get NotZilla to do that…
just open the console and type ModAV carryweight [#] to change it to whatever number you want.
Fang could do it. Heck, he was able to take Jone’s sword!
"Oh no. Not again." Said by both potted plants and Ranna lol
Love love love Ranna’s expressions… Hell, love all the panels!
Oh yeah, almost forgot… grrrr so angry that you were enjoying yourself by getting potted and making sure it was a quality comic posted so nudgniks didn’t yell at you for spelling errors… Lmao
Drow going all vampire in sunlight is a YAFGC thing I’m guessing. (In classic D&D, they were merely weakened.)
Remember what happened to Arachne when she got kidnapped by the Wood Elves?
Confirming my point.
Misunderstood what you said 🙁
Is it a reaction to the light or Ranna casually draining her life force though ?
Ranna absorbs life force and/or magic force by eating her victim.
goddess of vore
Turned into a plant? Makes me think of Douglas Adams and the Improbability Drive.
Gotta love wild magic sorcerers, played alongside an wood-elf one that’s grown and have had removed several extra toes. (Been a potted plant at least once too, and wound up permanently blue thanks to a combination of wild magic and dealing with Archmages)
You know what I call that last panel?
A serendipitous two-fer. ^_^
Potted plant?! We’re under attack! We’ve got to get out of here! This is no time to be setting down roots!
FRIENDLY FIRE! FRIENDLY FIRE!
… seriously, the attack hit mostly Lolth, who is on THEIR side.
It did, but I don’t think that blinding light was really an attack. Just an inevitable side effect of the giant ball of magical energy that the mages and priests (and Naomi!) have gathered.
The attack will come when we learn what they intend to DO with that energy…
Meh. Lolth is really only on the side of Lolth. Ranna taking over the multiverse is not in her interests.
If she’d wound up in a position of strength after this battle, she’d turn on everyone else involved without a moment’s hesitation.
Aw man, poor Lolth!
(And this comes from an unrepentant arachnophobe. Still, that’s a harsh way to go… all vampire-style and whatnot.)
I somehow doubt this is the end of Lolth.
Unless her daughter with Wolf has already been born…
While this is happening, there is a H U G E battle being waged all around with thousands on both sides. I’m hoping that all the characters will still be with us when it’s all over.
Lloth: I immediately regret everything!
Beholder King:…Blasting off again.
Give Rama credit, she is not one of those ‘Mysterious Ways’ Deities. No working from afar, she’s a very hands-on goddess. And by hand I mean fist…clenched around the hilt of a mighty weapon.
why is everyone talking about Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy? I don’t get it, where is this house plant everyone is mentioning, I don’t see it.
In HGttG, there’s a scene where a pair of nuclear missiles are caught in the wake of the Improbability Drive and one gets transformed into a a bowl of petunias. The other one becomes a sperm whale.
The plant itself is not in the comic- Rich was at a DnD game where he got caught in a chaotic spell surge and rolled that he turned into a plant for a turn. (and that was apparently the 2nd time in a chotic spell surge- the 1st being when his spelling went awry 😀 ) (I’ll see myself out now.)
well that’s a bit strange. this and that are not connected.
In his text blurb at the top of this page, Rich mentions the potted plant even from his recent game. That’s why people were commenting on it here, even though it had no direct connection to the comic itself.
oh I never read those.
duhhh…. sorry- thought i put that in, that it was discussed in the blurb. i did put it in! at least in my head i did… *rolls eyes at self*
Never thought I’d feel sorry for Lolth….
Aw, she’ll be fine. There’s a bit of Warner Brothers in the way Drow bounce back from sungrilling; I don’t think we’ve ever seen one permanently maimed or killed by sunlight.
Panel Three is just hilarious.
The rolling, the light…
t!
The visual representation of the Beholder King’s *English* on that launch…!
Eightball, left corner.
t!
Lolth should really have stocked up on sunscreen…
