It does look like they have wings and are more than bones in the last panel, so definitely lightning rather than disintegration.
Or maybe it was a disintegrate spell but they made the save so only lost some HP

Breathing fire in my face is kind of the dog’s thing. And it’s more like… sulphur. As for the cat…

Which makes me wonder if the first thing Sphynx says to Ranna is, "I want my breakfast! Now!"
I’ve managed to "set" my cat to 6am. In other words, she doesn’t even TRY to wake me before 6am… How she tells what time it is,is still a bit of a mystery…

Rabbits are bad for that too. I had a second hand TV set with badly frayed cables wrapped tightly in electrical tape because of a rabbit.

The newly adopted greyhound chewing network cables is why we are now totally wireless at my home.
You know the moment your wife ask "is something wrong with the internet?" and you present her with bits of cable and a dog who has no idea they’ve done anything wrong. And at worse they got a tingle for their mistake.
Animals like cats and rabbits are strangely attracted to the material wiring insulation is made of. Apparently they like the taste…
Seriously, it’s the texture, not the taste. Every chewing species is attracted to rubber, and rubberiness. There’s some variation whether to squish it repeatedly or pull it apart, but the texture is the thing.
My dad’s cats used to put dead mice in my slippers. If you forgot to check and felt a cold squishy crunchy thing squeeze between your toes, it was not a good start to the day.
Try scraping off mouse guts and brains first thing in the morning. *Shudder*

The ‘Good Guys’ have the right strategy going.
Kill any of the Good Guys, or even most of them, and they fight on.
Kill/Defeat Ranna, though, and the battle’s won.

At the rate things are going for Ranna, she’s going to have to deploy her left tit soon.

While I hope Chimera is okay, I can’t deny that what drew my attention in that panel was their sublimely detailed skeletal anatomy.
(I was also originally afraid it was a disintegration effect, rather than electricity.)

Yeah! Heh… I used my own website as reference for that panel.
I didn’t know that the Chimera & the Sphinx are similar in size to Ranna.
I’m not the most consistent artist. I should probably refer to my size relation charts, I’ve got a few in my archives. But truth is that characters are the heights they need to be to make a gag or scene work. Like King Kong, who’s a lot bigger in the city than he is on his island, my hope is that it’s subtle and you won’t notice because it works.
We know Ranna is gigantic, and so are Chimera and Sphynx. I haven’t measured them next to the people, I just use the size catagory that I established them into.
In “Last of the Wormhunters” we see Chimera talking to people eye-to-eye while they’re standing in the battlements of a castle tower. And he carries a bunch of Black Mountain denizens on his back way back in the beginning when Bob and Maula rescue Gren and Arachne from Brittlemark. And of course, the Sphynx and Chimera meet face to face at the climax of “Turg’s Saga”.
Now you’ve made me want you to have Ira Gamagoori from Kill la Kill walk past the army as the largest humanoid there, then as he reaches Ranna suddenly and unexplainedly be half again her size.
(For the uninitiated, Gamagoori’s unstated superpower is to be as tall as he needs to be, with his minimum height being "obviously the tallest person in the room." The Irkens would surrender instantly.)
The sphinx seems to able to vary her size – at least, that is one interpretation of how she was able to have several adorable kids with Turg.
This might be an opportune time for a character like Cerberus to be introduced. This fight could use a big doggy.
Though chances are, if there is a character like Cerberus in the YAFGC world, it’s probably saving Timmy from the well. Again.
Hooray, Chimera returns! Boo, Ranna tries to electrocute him! Yay, the last panel shows him intact, and hopefully only passed out, not dead.
Also, hooray, in the 4th panel it looks like King Eric I survived Ranna’s smack down!
Dearly hoping our three conjoined friends are all right, too. Their deaths…well, every death in this battle is a tragedy, but theirs would be even more so than most. They were innocents, in a way.
While I can only hope for the Chimera’s survival, I was relieved to learn King Eric is still OK.
Knowing Chimera doesn’t like to fly, that might have been a normal landing. 🙂

And an other epic scene. With quite a mixed reaction from my side as well. It went something like this: "Yay, Eric I. is safe!" "That is a very well drawn skelet./NOOO! Not Chimera!" "Yay! Sphynx joins the battle! And hopefully just managed to save Chimera!" "Wait, Sphynx is here? Wasn’t Turg taking their kids to Ch’Thier’s tomb, because she couldn’t leave the Pyramid?"
By the way, I would like to mention, I’m really grateful for the Chimera skelet. Always was as such, as I was thinking about the anatomy of mythological and fantasy beings quite some time. Mostly, when I see angels and sorts with shoulder plates under their wings, 4-armed creatures with likely impossible joints, and women with clearly reptilian origins with boobs… Then I always thought, if I would ever start to draw such things (which I plan by the way, just not that good with drawing…yet), I would want to come up first with a believable anatomy, and draw them according to that.
I think it’s more the fact her job is to guard the tomb, so she’s unwilling to leave it unguarded under most circumstances. However, Ranna manifesting physically is such a threat to the world, it overshadows her duty to protect the tomb. (Also, if Ranna wins, her kids and her husband are in danger, so yeah. She’s gonna protect them).
Ah, there is one more thing I was thinking. What happens with the Balance, and therefore with Ch’Thier, if Ranna is killed? Is this the reason, why ? let her go? Did she know, that something like this going to happen? It could be, that Ch’Thier needs to help (save) Ranna to preserve the balance…
YOu make enough enemies for yourself, and sooner or later they WILL dogpile you.

Yes, I see what you mean: leading off from the ‘claw’, there should be three long bones on each side, we can see three on the left but only two on the right
Uh oh, it’s a five legged spider. Now you mention it, I think I’ve noticed a few Disney characters that are missing some fingers…
I mean that this specific Chimera in this specific style and this specific comic usually has three. I mean, just look at the background of this site.
I love how Ranna turns more and more demonic and less human-looking by the panel.
Also I hope our favourite huge doofus is OK.

I think that’s not so much her appearance changing, as having her face burned off by Chimera. She’s looking a bit skeletal in that seventh panel…

What difference do you see between panel 2 of this and the last strip? They look the same to me. Just different angles and facial expressions.

I think with the side view in panel 5 not showing the hairline it makes the brow look more pronounced. Coupled with her missing most/all her hair in panel 7 (due to Chimera’s fire breath) it gives the illusion that her fact is becoming less humanoid and more monstrous.
That’s not the case, but I can see how someone would get that impression.

I’m well aware that that’s mostly the style more than an actual transformation. I say it still fits rather well with her loss of power and control revealing her true self 😉

I know you’ve probably already drawn and loaded the next few pages, Rich, but I’m really hoping that NotZilla gets a turn at Ranna.
The way things are going, by the time Ch’Thier gets to Ranna, the two will probably be on an even footing.
Fingers crossed that, with all these gods in play, there’s at least ONE bona fide miracle to be had at the end of this battle as, a lot of my faves seem to be dying. Or, at the least, getting really eff’d up!
Also, who’s Ranna’s clothier? I mean, who makes underpants in ‘Giant Goddess’ size?!
As she’s in a Romanish armor, she’s likely wearing the same sort of loincloth the Romans wore.

Sphinx are one of the most powerful creatures in d&d. Even gods fear them, so that is a huge win factor for team: "not rhanna."

I’m confident Chimera is all right, if not a bit scorched. They’re tough, and can probably handle some lightning damage with some form of grace.

hmmm…i was looking at the pic, considering he’s skeletal with an outline in panel 7, but whole again in panel 8, i think what we saw was him taking a lighting bolt or shocking grasp and him briefly X-raying as a result!
I know that this is aimed at being R rather than X, and I actually do appreciate this (more really isn’t necessary, and is often just gauche), but… wah!!! _Panties_ again! 😭
One thing that's good about this is that it really isn't clear whether they are doing serious damage to Ranna or if they are just knocking her around without actually damaging her. I doubt that they will actually be able to defeat her though, since that would invalidate the plan the magic users have been enacting. That would go against some of the rules of good storytelling.
