And Rich, I know not everything is a direct homage, but the last three panels reminded *me* of the end of The Hobbit (book) when Bilbo was knocked unconscious wearing the Ring, and almost gets stepped on. 😉
"What voice is that that speaks among the stones?"
Also Ryann is a tough little cookie (not that I’d expect differently from any of her mother’s offspring). I hope one day we’ll see all of Flannet’s children unite in freckled awesomeness.
That’da been awesome. But I’m glad you didn’t, actually. Without funny SFX, left on its own, the scene looks pretty vicious, warfare as ugly efficiency.
Reminds me of the start of the game "Dungeon Siege", the main character is a farmer whose main weapon is a either a shovel or a rake (can’t remember), do remember the moves were spectacular
Loved that show 😀
Grew up on it, tried to get the full series on DVD and VHS (missed set in both: one is missing the first issue, the other the last issue)
Shame about what happened to the actress who played Tripitaka 🙁 (yes, the male monk was played by a female)
I had a character in AD&D who used a shovel as his primary weapon. His name was "Croak, the Man Doomed to Die" as I had a horrible streak of characters dying.
Seeing this action makes me think of Nethack, for a halfling archaeologist. Standard weapons are the whip and shovel, which is also useful for getting through dirt walls, collapsed tunnels, locked wooden doors, etc. Very much inspired by Dr. Henry Jones, Jr.
Never underestimate the utility of a shovel!
Well done, Ryann!
Nice ending to the strip.

Hah! I didn’t even think of that, but you’re right!
Unexpected family reunion \o/

Hitting a Gorgon in the face with the flat end of a shovel seems to me like an *excellent* idea.
t!
It was tough for me to not write WHANNNNGGGG!!! on that panel.
HAAAHAAAAAHAAAA!
(breathes)

Or deform the shovel head in the shape of the Gorgon’s face 😀
I saw it as a "PANNNNNG!" sort of sound, complete with Eddie Izzards voice
Yup, it’s definitely not a CONK.
"A clang well done" and yes, def better than w sfx, but i can feel the temptation myself 😀
Fear the power of the shovel!
They meeeeeet!!!
But do they know?
If I were Cadugan, at this point I would be tentatively assuming that every freckled stranger I meet is a sibling.
Once again, Cadugan is indirectly introduced to another of his maternal half-sibling by fate.
There’s a SHovel-Knight joke in here some where but I can’t be bothered to dig it up.

Madeline the paladin from Rusty and Company also fights with gardening tools – and very effectively.
Or Tika Waylan from Dragonlance with frying pans (well before Rapunzel)
In the old chinese TV show ‘Monkey’ (a favourite of British school kids of my age) Pigsy fought with a muck rake
Loved that show 😀

AHhhh Pig-sy! Fwt Fwt Fwt
Loved that growing up.
And NotRichard – the woman playing the monk confused the hell out of young me. Was sad what happened to her.
There have been attempts to remake that show several times, none come even close to the original

Of course he never did.
Well, how many times this comic has said there isn’t most powerful than the family
Now that his little brother has a new buddy to run around with, Cad had to find another sibling to have some sibling adventures with.
I must say the first panel had an "Indiana Jones" feel to it. Must be the hat.

I have only one question: Where are the wargis?!
Burying (re-burying?) skeleton bones 😀
(late, I know – just re-reading the entire conflict):
So – she is kind of the Ace of Spades? Or does she mostly shovel well?
