plot hole
noun
noun: plot hole;
plural noun: plot holes; noun: plothole; plural noun: plotholes
an inconsistency in the narrative or character development of a book, film, television show, etc.
In the words of Inigo Montoya "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means."
Dying in childbirth was an unfortunately common event until relatively recently. Even small problems could cause the mother to bleed out, or suffer a severe infection.
A skilled midwife could literally be a life saver in many situations, knowing what to do to stop the bleeding, or prevent infection. But there was only so much that could be done with the technology and knowledge of the day.
In fact if the first twin is born easily, then there is significant trouble with the second, I would think the mother surviving would be the real surprise, not the other way around.
Of course, healing magic could be a big counter to a lot of the problems, but just because there is healing magic in the world doesn’t mean it is available to everyone. Although I think in this case if it was available at all, it would have been available here.
In the real world, this is the reason that home childbirth is still considered risky; sure if everything goes well, not a big deal, But if something goes wrong, the lack of the proper personnel and equipment can be fatal for either or both of the mother and child. Midwives have seen a resurgence because of home childbirth, and a properly trained one can be very beneficial if things go sideways.
Hmmm…The Goddess of Order had an easy birth. The Goddess of Chaos had a birth fraught with complications that everyone survived. That…seems straight forward.
I think "Plot Hole," was not the right word. I don’t see any flaws. "Rabbit Hole," perhaps?
I’m going to politely apologize. I thought he was reading too much into what was presented and "going down a rabbit hole." I’m not certain what was meant by the original plot hole comment, because it was fairly straightforward and in-keeping with what we would see on the next page. I was trying to suggest reader dysfunction rather than writer dysfunction. Sometimes we create our own confusion.
Oh you’re good Nef. Guesticus is a long time pain in my ass who likes to fill the comments sections with his own brand of dumb. Which didn’t bother me for a long time, but he got heel-diggy and aggressively defensive when occasionally called out or politely asked to stop. I banned him once but he slipped in the back door as "Not Richard" -a moniker which I found personally offensive- and has been trying to keep a lower profile since. I was too tired to RE-ban his ass again at the time, which I feel was excessively generous of me, and he’s been generally better behaved since, though neither forgiven nor forgotten.
After my twin and my own birth the doctor said to my mother that my twin only had a day to live (he gave me two weeks). He is still wrong for over 50 years.
That is not what you say to a mother shortly after birth. I am still proud of my father for not hurting that doctor.
I like your name 🙂 but then mine is very common, I had 5 others in my homeromm alone. My sister, otoh, has a very unusual name, and hates it. Figures, eh?
Also like Ch’thier’s full name, and the shortened version, and that we got to know about it 🙂
It’s not that Chezhouli didn’t LIKE her full name; those extra letters were actually stolen by her sister. Ranna tried adding the seven pilfered letters to her own name, but it turns out that "Lunar Ion Haze" is a silly name even for a Princess of Chaos, and "Ha! Urinal Zone!" is only funny, like, the first million times you hear it. So in the end, she decided to use the stolen letters to continue their Mom’s old research project.
Ranna took the seven letters she stole from her sister, and she grafted them onto a monkey! She was disappointed in the result, though. Nothing much had changed, except that the monkey was now a milky ozone hue.
An hour between the birth of twins is a really long separation. I seem to recall a pair of twins I went to school with were born 7 minutes apart and that was considered a bit long.
"Everyone survived…" when that’s what someone chooses to remark about your birth you know things got crazy.
Was just about to comment on that 😀
Hope we get some more details on that plothole 😛
Plothole?
Childbirth is a real danger for human beings, especially in a time before medicine. How is that a plothole?
Plothole?? Seriously?
Would only have been a plothole if it wasn’t explained, and it was, so no plothole

It’s literally a hole in the plot, doesn’t have to be an inconsistency, something that happens that is not explained also counts
And, as was already pointed out, was not the correct word

Yes, emphasis on ‘properly trained’
My niece had one who was not, and she an her son almost died *because* of the midwife

Yes, not the right word
A very different hole word comes to my mind…. But that’s just me.
Not just you!
t!
I’m never lucky enough to get two in Scrabble 🙂

I guess Chezhouli didn’t like her first name much if she shortened it to just C’.
Ch’
I’ve visited that planet.
t!

*giggles enough to bother the cats on me* WOW 😀
The sheer, staggering intimacy of knowing a goddess’ long-forgotten *original name*…
They say names have power.
But maybe it’s what comes of knowing those names.
t!
I’ve often found the two coincide… And my cat doesn’t thank you any more then Mucat! Lolol
Uhhh… That was meant to be a reply to T-Chall… Not sure what happened…
Chezhouli is a lovely name, why did she shorten it?
People kept saying "bless you!"
Baby God grabs cat’s tail:
Cat: why bother fighting? 😀

Ranna, God of Chaos living up to her name before even being born.
If she wasn’t the goddess of chaos she’d have a good shot at being the goddess of procrastination.
Not impossible, but usually a sign of problems.
Order and Chaos, right from the start.
The average delivering time between twins is 17 minutes. See https://www.egscomics.com/comic/2013-05-13 :-).
Does that include Gods?
