"So we have to swear off torturing people, which we like, so you can put us to work torturing people, which we like…or else you’ll torture us, which we like? Thinking about this makes my brain hurt. Which I like."
You know, I really hoped Arachne had Plot Armour. Quite a twist when it turned out she didn’t. She was something of the voice of reason. I mean, Maula is still here to help out. But I wonder how long she will stay alive, since everyone is fair game.
Among the Drow, Nephilia and Wolf are now powerful voices of reason. Glon and his wives seem to be stepping into that role for the Orcs, as Maula moves gradually into a well-earned retirement. And Hogga is relatively new to the pressures of ruling, but shows every sign of rising to the challenge.
If anything, it’s some of the human kingdoms that worry me as potential flashpoints of bad decisions…namely Elegrost, Shallmar, and Umbril. Not that the rulers of any of those places are necessarily foolish or malicious, but they’ve all absorbed some harsh blows during the Ranna wars, and it remains to be seen what lessons they’ll decide to take to heart.
I’d say, "let them all go to the equivalent of Q" but I’m not sure what an escalation from "Worshiping A Goddess Eating The Entire Pantheon" would even be.
Hanging from one’s hair is a real life circus act, so it’s definitely possible. It is also a risk for long-haired climbers in case their hair gets stuck in the rappelling device, but in this case the hair usually doesn’t support the whole weight of the person.
Actually hair is incredibly strong, much stronger (at least collectively) than our arms even. This [xkcd artilce](https://what-if.xkcd.com/56/) has sources that have evidence that hair is one of the strongest things in the body, with a tensile strength stronger than some bones, and comparable to the remaining.
If we had a healthy person hanging off their hair, and another hanging off their arms. The person hanging of their arms would have them rip first (at the articulation, which are much weaker than hair) much earlier than the person hanging off hair.
Please to forgive the ignorant, but aren’t they basically attempting to deprogram them of the Ranna brainwashing mindcontrol?
To give them back their own will? So they can think for themselves?
If the ex-Rannites learn to think for themselves, great. But the Drow aren’t altruistic enough to make that their *goal*.
(If Jais eventually comes to regard some of them as friends, then she might care about helping them toward greater self-actualization. But for now, she probably just wants them to be useful, however that word ends up defined.)
I showed in earlier strips that it’s a black goo that magically bonds to flesh. So… it’s a little bit both.

I kind of think the DM’s really don’t care who’s in charge as long as they can do their thing.
"So we have to swear off torturing people, which we like, so you can put us to work torturing people, which we like…or else you’ll torture us, which we like? Thinking about this makes my brain hurt. Which I like."
??
Jais misses Arachne, we *all* (well, a lot of us) do 🙁

Just to let you know: this comic has the same number as the one before (3408)
Good catch. Thanks, I’ve fixed it now.
Hey, after over 3,400 comics there was bound to be a mistake eventually!
This one is numbered the same as the last one.
Confirmed, small glitch in the numbering system. This one should be 3409.
Thanks, fixed!
New boss same as the old boss!
except new boss probably won’t eat you.
At least, not in a bad way 😉
For some reason, it feels kinda weird to see Wolf actually called "Your Majesty".
How to reach someone who’s already broken. It’s like trying to reach a flat earther…
Good luck!

Wait, are they actually *hanging* from their hair?
Hair may be strong, but only as strong as it’s roots

In this case at least part of the force is covered by the costume rather than the hair, and I assume it’s rather tough material.
Correction, covered by the costume rather than the roots. the hair itself still has to handle the whole weight.

Yeah, hair can put a dent in steel, but what about the flesh of the scalp? Would that tear off first?
Ugh. Horrible image.
I really like this comforting, reassuring side of Wolf.
t!
Please to forgive the ignorant, but aren’t they basically attempting to deprogram them of the Ranna brainwashing mindcontrol?
To give them back their own will? So they can think for themselves?
How would that benefit the Drow??
So, Jais (and the remainder of Arachne’s group, maybe?) is the only one who is allowed to think for themselves?
Weren’t some of the new crop of DM’s goblins and such? Oh right, if they could think for themselves again, they would go back to their own kind
Not a matter of "allowed", I imagine.
If the ex-Rannites learn to think for themselves, great. But the Drow aren’t altruistic enough to make that their *goal*.

Ex-Rannites: "Yes! We’ve all got to think for ourselves!"

what do DMs look like under all their fetish gear? or are they actually naked and they just have black patent leather skin?
I showed in earlier strips that it’s a black goo that magically bonds to flesh. So… it’s a little bit both.
