3457 Graceful
It liiiiives!
Okay I think you’re probaby aware of the story by now. I’m fine, we’re okay. I dropped silent because of [no longer quite so new] job. I had a deadline to meet today and was up very late a few nights in a row trying to meet it. And I did. So kudos to me, but I am sorry about missing updates on yafgc. Not just to you all (who are always so gracious and forgiving!) but also to t! whose been working hard giving me scripts and gags to work on when I can, and also to the characters themselves who are waiting in the wings for their world to continue. Some of them more patiently than others.
I’m sorry to my patrons too, who got on this plan when I found myself unemployed, shortly before my life took a serious swerve to the incredibly busy and I’ve made some promises to them that I fully intend to keep! Honest! Please bear with me I’ve suddenly got a lot more drawing to do.
Love you all and thank you for sticking with me;
YAFGC slows down sometimes, but it’s not going away, I promise you.
-Rich “Beholder King” Morris
EDIT!!!!
HOLY CRAP!!! I JUST REALIZED MAY 29th WAS YAFGC’S 15TH ANNIVERSARY!!!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MY LOVELY READERS!
I had meant to do something cool for today but I got so busy it crept up on me and I forgoooooooot!! ๐
Still, 15 years, man. That’s pretty awesome.
Thats the Negotiator at work… well done Lucas for smoothing that one out ๐
Well done indeed, Lucas.
Goodness but he has matured over the years!
Comic-Start Duke would have blown a lid ages ago.
Kudos to him.
I wonder how much of her attitude was based upon her prior assumption of what his attitude was going to be?
Probably all of it.
Methinks Cadugan just remembered Lucas likes women too.
That reminds me, is the curse still in effect? After all it is (was?) magic. Quick, someone fetch a carrot.
Is no one going to give props to Cadugan for delivering the perfect set-up for Lucas’ diplomatic masterstroke? Fine, I’ll do it myself. Way to support your spouse Cadugan!
I’d give him props if I thought he expected Lucas to respond so diplomatically. The heavy emphasis he puts on ‘The Captain’ makes me think he wasn’t thinking of that but trying to get back at the Captain
I’m seeing some sparks between Lucas and Lilianne. I can see Cadugan getting a jealous streak coming up. Sensing there’s going to be a lot more happening than just a straight forward murder investigation.
I see that too. It doesn’t help that Cadugan has had a chip on his shoulder since they started the journey. And I don’t think he’s aware that it’s happening.
I think Cadugan’s just being himself: being a :^$&&=-" lol
I am really curious about the sparks being seen. I personally don’t, but i tend not to. I’m expecting Cadugan to be snarky just based on his low opinion of people that he doesn’t know or care about, so that colors what i _would_ see. He almost always has a chip on his shoulder around new people or anything that impinges on his preferences. (Plus i can simply be oblivious lol)
as for the Captain, it relieves my mind that she can admit her error, offer her own line of apology and meet them part way. With a smile ๐
of course, that fact annoys Cadugan, so there’s the fact that his snarkiness rebounded is a plus lol
And plaudits for Lucas, sparks or snarks not withstanding
And plaudits for the strip title. Niccccce punmanship
I wonder if the E&D (D&E??) trio is disappointed…
That is not an anti-Cadugan remark. One of the facets i love about this comic is there are differences in personalities that do not undermine how good a person is (or isn’t). I enjoy him very much ๐
It always strikes me how sweet Cadugan seems (to me, at least) when he doesnโt make grumpy faces. Still โpretty elf-boyโ as Lucas once called him.
She smiles.
That won’t be good
He no longer tastes like stupid.
Can’t help it: i’m quietly laughing at Cadugan’s expression in tne first panel even now. HISS!!! Lol
Hah, yeah. Makes me wonder how the actor in the film version is gonna inflect the boldface.
t!
Actor?
FILM VERSION?
Was this mentioned before somewhere? Author comments or something, and I’m just dumb and missed it?
Either way, that’s great. This is going to be awesome. Where’s it coming out? Digital-only, or a disc on Amazon?
Sorry, I was just fantasising. Didn’t mean to get anyone’s hopes up.
That being said…
t!
In the words of Captain Ajira: "Don’t DO THAT!"
Besides, what kind of friend would you be to inflict all that extra work on Rich??
*Keeps thinking and dreaming about it…* I wonder if we could crowdfund or kickstart it…
Richard is an animator… he knows many animators… together we know many voice actors…
t!
Rich has also mentioned that this world will never die, he is just the current storyteller of it… Not that i’d want him to stop being all he is, and i definitely wouldn’t want to add more to his plate, but it reads as if he wouldn’t totally object to … Nope, shush up, brain and heart. Not going to get my hopes up… ๐
and really, as much as i enjoy the characters and story and message (and , well, everything), i don’t think re-imagining/re-imaging most of this would be as effective as a continuous stream. So much is perfect for the medium it’s in, filling in the between-the-strips might prove difficult. (Otoh, … Lol)
<img src="http://yafgc.net/specialimages/Videos/Seenitinyoureyes.avi" alt="Trevor" />
Oops. How’d that get there?
HAH! Awesome.
Is that Rancourt on VO?
t!
It’s our beloved T-Chall! I told him he sounded wonderfully Winnie-the-Pooh-ish. ๐
BTW: If anyone thinks they can do a good voice for a character, do feel free to record yourself saying something as a character and sending it to me. I’d love to hear what you think they sound like. I can’t offer money or a VA job at the moment, but I’d love to hear what you think they sound like.
They’ve all got voices in my head, of course, though some of them I can’t really describe or imitate. But I’d love to know how they sound to other people.
I thought it might be him!
Shoulda gone with my first guess. Like in Trivial Pursuit.
> I told him he sounded wonderfully Winnie-the-Pooh-ish.
Yes, he does!
t!
Thank you, Rich. I had great fun doing that. If memory serves, I think it was Rancourt who said Trevor should have a Winnie the Pooh like voice.
I hope Rich will allow me a moment to say I do voice overs, and Iโm a member of SAG-AFTRA. Iโm on voices.com.
Don’t be shy!
Go check this out now!

Thank you so much, t!. ?
Speaking like Winnie the Pooh has proven such a help. The chicken farmer canโt help but smile and wave me, er a fox away when he catches me..er, a fox in the hen house. This is what Iโve been told by other fox pookas. Iโm not speaking from personal experience, nope, not me!
Why are you all giving me that look of disbelief? ??
Thank you for posting the link, Rich! ๐
Props to Rich for not cluttering that third panel!
Keeps Lucas’ intent centre-stage.
t!
I know of Wally Wood’s panels that work, and think this is a perfect example of why I love Rich’s work. He is an excellent stripper.
This scene has made me remember how much has Lucas maturated from the first story he appeared. Such a long time…
If the studio you’re working for pays you for completing work, then gives you so much work that you have to take it home and stay up late so you can complete it on time, then that studio is taking advantage of you. I don’t know the full scale of your job, but it sounds like your life is not better for having it. Hope you’re doing okay and staying healthy.
This is just how the industry works. I’ve got five weeks to make half a storyboard (Kanthara -my supervisor- and a third artist are doing the other half. She can’t do the half herself because she’s got a lot more responsibilities than just working on the board like me). The first 2.5 weeks are for roughing it out, then we have a big meeting and the second 2.5 weeks are for cleanup. It then goes to someone else to fix up further. Thing is, my second 2.5 weeks fell on a 4-day weekend for the kids here and the house was a bit crazy. I got very little done and lost two days of normal work. The studio is pretty awesome about it to be honest and if I’d rung them up and cried a little they’d probably have given me an extension. But I wanted to meet the deadline and show them how awesome I am.
And I did! ๐
Rich, no worries. Family, job, and other real life responsibilities always come first, along with also taking some time for yourself to rest and relax. Thank you for letting us know you and the family are all okay.
Also, great going on meeting the deadline! It’s great to hear that the job is going well. I’m looking forward to hearing about the job when you can tell us about it. I’m also hoping that this show will also be airing here in the states.
Take care and all the best.
I’m pretty confident you’ll see it there. It’s more unusual to work on a show that ISN’T aired there to be honest.
So self-imposed cruelty in order to show off. Sounds like you are being an adult to me. *Sniffs in disapproval*
Lol congrats, props, kudos, adulations, and plaudits! I’m very happy for you that you were able yo accomplish what you wanted ^_^
Glad you and family are okay, and understandable that you needed time to y’know earn your living. Appreciate that you let us know. I totally understand having everybody irl AND in this world clamoring for attention NOW!! I’ve the same issue, but it’s housework, boring job to make money, and cats here *sigh* and books. They call my name, they whisper at me, they… Shush. I’ll read you instead of cleaning house!
Anyway!
On another note, you are evil!! Posting that voice. It’s perfect!!! Getting everyone’s hopes up lolol
My only concern is giving t! more time to come up with devious plot twists and characters, and horrible, terrible puns… Lol
And that now i want reread The Little Librarian again…
Totally agree, and normally I’d harrumph at the very idea of putting in that kind of effort to please a studio. But they’ve been so good to me and honestly I haven’t been this pleased to be on a show in a VERY long time, so I’m enjoying it.
Isn’t T-Chall awesome? It’s not the only YAFGC voice he’s done for his demo reel (he’s a voice actor irl) and if I had all the time in the world I’d be (A George Lazenby Bond film theme) animating every little voice clip anyone has ever sent me. But alas…. I have so many projects and so little time.
So I hopefully will do more soon. Especially now that I’ve been getting in so much practice with ToonBoom software.
Aw, thank you so much, Rich. ๐
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
t!
Yes, a very happy anniversary. Can’t yell you how many hours of pleasure, laughter, enjoyment, and sheer amazement you’ve allowed me over most of those years.
15 years !
That’s Ruby isn’t it ?
Happy Anniversary! Thank you so much for all the entertainment and wonderful stories, characters, and world that you’ve created. You’ve created a world and characters that have great depth, one that feels so real, that only a tiny amount of this place and people have been revealed.
Well done, Rich, and again, thank you.
Happy 15th anniversary to Rich, his family, and all the wonderful (or horrible, or both) cartoon people who make up the YAFGC universe. Thanks for all the great stories, and looking forward to the ones the future brings — including the mysterious new project you’re helping create on your day job!
