"Get a room!" seems appropriate here.
Judge Dredd would be proud.
Joe Dredd:
The only being, in any universe, capable of glaring through *an opaque visor*.
It’s the way his lips curl downward, I think. He’s the total package.
(speaking of package, just two days ago I got my (latest) copy of "Among The Living" in the mail)
t!
It’s all in the chin, with Dredd. That chin has enough presence to win any staring contest.
"You. I like you."
Yo did this latest strip only to prove how the last panel of the previous strip makes total sense, didn’t you XD (I had no problem with the height difference, I only read the comments)
Talk to t! The strip was written a long time before! 😀
In fact, it says in the script I sent him that I wrote this because I love the way he draws Ajira!
t!
Bwahaha xD
Damn! A staring contest
May you all be as blessed in your collaborators as I am in mine.
t!
Agreed, and may you be as blessed in your media as we are in this creation team. Magnificent character development <3
Thank you so much. Although I didn’t say it back there, I appreciated yours and everybody’s thoughtful comments on Carruthers/Meegs etc.
During that discussion, I’d forgotten this strip was coming! I’m thrilled that discussion and this strip happened so closely together.
And it’s fun to compare this to Strip 3456.
t!
Curious:
Did anyone, upon beginning this strip, wonder whether there was a genuine beef between the two which had either occurred between strips or was going to be explained soonish?
t!
Honestly, I did not. The only reason these two were ever gonna NEED to stare each other down was "Because she’s there". I liked the handshake at the end, thanking a worthy opponent for a challenging match. Reminded me a bit of Arachne and Giovanna’s swordfight way back when.
Now, Sulaaf and Baz Hoggs, on the other hand…those two definitely DO have some shared history and a grudge.
Oops! Ajira and Baz Hoggs, I meant.
Nor did/have I, at least in terms of past. I’ve been thinking (assuming…) that it was based solely on current circumstances (one defending her territory, the other "reminding" her that she also has a job she will do, both trying to establish that their intelligence and skills are to be reckoned with).
In terms of explanation, I’m assuming most stuff will get explained by the end of the chapter. Partly because it is a murder mystery, partly because Rich, despite being tricksy and twisty with his plots and characterization, has always given answers, in comic or in comments, unless there’s a very good reason why not. And t! *grins* is more than enough of a mystery buff to not 1, give enough clues for mysteries to be solved, and 2, leave us hanging. I think he’ll play fair with the intelligent reader. (Not that i am at all ready to start really accusing any character, considering we haven’t met most of the suspects, and Captain Carruthers is still learning new facts.) but i think he’s also too dedicated to making this work to leave out character info.
I also liked the handshake touch- again, support for her character being a decent person.
what are the dark mistresses doing while all this is going on? we haven’t seen them since page 3450. they’re not all about comic relief and sweet, sweet pain.
Anyone else hear the crunching of knuckles in that last panel as one last form of one upping, or just me?
A total non-verbal/visual battle over jurisdiction! Well played.
