3500 Identity Parade
on March 18, 2022
Here it FINALLY is! Strip #3500!!! Landmark number marked with a colour page and a whole slew of new character intros. I would have done the BGs and shading and stuff too but I really wanted to get this up and get to other things I have to do. I still might shade it sometime, I dunno. My cleans and colour images are never as popular as my dirty roughs, though, for whatever reason. So I’m sure I probably won’t both bother.
Anyway, thanks for sticking around for THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED comics!!! You guys are the best!
-Rich “BK” Morris & t!
They ALL did it!!!
t!
I’m liking Jystine in purple. I drew her in Colin Baker-esque mismatched everything at first, but she works better coordinated.
It was a very cool surprise!
t!
While the grannies are cute, I have to say, I like the way Jystine is drawn and colored best out of the lot of them. She looks to have a mischievous flair to her. Both her outfit and expression lack conformity to the new ‘rules’ of high fashion in this era. Which does not mean that she isn’t the murderer/framer. Her declaration could be an honest shrug to the obvious reason the Duke and his husband are there, or it could be an attempt to look innocent by ‘hanging a lantern on it’. Or both at once.
Still looks like she could be "Doctor Who" related. She looks like she could be a female incarnation of The Corsair.
I would love to hear (later) the Rube-Goldberg explanation for how they all participated in killing the victim (which is how she ended up both poisoned and crushed). Some of them could even have participated accidentally. Maula was framed, as the only person who was NOT involved somehow.
Maula was involved and her part of the deal was to get framed but have a reasonable alibi or immunity?
Nothing like a good Julius Caesar-ing.
Fantastic! Here’s to many thousand more!
I love this comic. π
It must be the Duckminster. She looks far to innocent to be true .
After as many years of reading OOTS by the other Rich as I’ve done, I always suspect halflings when it comes to mayhem.
If Bindi has a pet cat, run. (Or lately, an adopted beholder is a sign of trouble too.)
Excusatio non petita, acusatio manifesta.
Orlando, you are under arrest.
Also neither I trust the blind charming old woman..for reasons xD
I find it odd that all the guests for the tournament are female. Is it meant to be a female only tournament?
Nope. They’re just the best.
Ah, but the best at what, that is the question…
I also like the array of races. Perhaps an all-female secret cabal to control the world?
AHa! And that’s the reason Maula was framed: she knows how much work that entails, and didn’t want to be dragged back into doing it!
Right, she is all "Been there, done that, I am retired, lets just play cards…".
This is kind of hilarious.
t!
Lucas is trying to look nice, and forcing it.
Cadugan is not bothering.
Rich is a master.
t!
Pshawww
Would we stick around for 3500 strips if not? π
i’m trying to imagine Cadugan trying to be polite for long without explodig….
And then there’s the Captain’s expression as she’s looking at Cadugan….
Congrats, and a hearty thank you on making the big 3500, Rich!
Either a forced, slightly nasty grin, or Lucas is grinning like a wolf on the hunt, scenting his prey. His eyes are a bit wild there. I agree about Cadugan not bothering to hide that he feels that one of the other players would make a good suspect. And about Rich being a master.
I agree, Carruthers’ expression looking at Cadugan is interesting. She might just be appreciating that he is not bothering at all with the niceties of hiding his opinions… Or it might be something else. I hope we find out. *rubs hands together in anticipation*
I’m Assuming that you use different colours for the characters in Clue/Cludo in the US?
Congratulations on 3,500. It’s been a hell of a ride! π
Ooooh!! It didn’t occur to me to use Clue colors!!! Great idea!
But for the record I believe Clue uses the same scheme as Cluedo. And also, t! And I are Canadian.
I am Canadian as well and we get the American edition of Clue. Other than the title, I think the only differences between the two editions are the spelling of Miss Scarlet’s name and the weapon "Wrench" is spelled "Spanner".
Cluedo was invented in the UK and was published by Waddingtons in 1949. When Waddingtons licensed the game to Parker Brothers in the States the next year, PB dumbed-down the name and made a few Americanizing changes (as I noted above) and changed the name of the victim to Mr. Boddy (the body) from Dr. Black. Otherwise is mostly the same. Hasbro bought Waddington’s and Parker Brothers in the 1990’s.
The U.S. version also renamed Reverend Green to Mister Green, as at the time it really wasn’t a done thing for clergy to use their title outside the church itself (unless Catholic, of course). The art for Mrs. White changed too, although I can’t remember if it was to make her look more or less like a domestic.
Now I can’t un-see this all being played out on a Clue board. The game within the game, within the game…
I like the depth and three-dimensionality that your sketchy lines give the strip usually Rich, but having an occasional color strip so that I know what colors to imagine people as/wearing is fun too.
3500! This will soon challenge the Necronomicon!
Congratulations on a great milestone. Its been a wonderful ride.
3500–and counting!
So…everything is coming together–DUN-DUN-DUNNN!!!!
(Who knows when it will be ultimately revealed, but the stage looks like it’s being set.)
Here’s to the next 3500!
Be our guest. We are happy, glad and thankful to you for this 3500 and the others will continue arrive
Is Ms. Orlando supposed to be human or elf? I guess that Eliddel is an elf, so Orlando is human. Too bad; my (admittedly twisted) thinking was "Jystine Orlando -> Orlando Bloom -> Played the main elf character for Peter Jackson -> So, she should be an elf." Clearly I managed to go down a more ridiculous rabbit hole than Alice.
The two grandmother types, one hobbit and one probably human, are so adorable.
Ms.Orlando is Human. Eliddel is Half-Elf.
Personally, I enjoy how unique the "sketch-and-shade" drawing are out of all the webcomics I know about.
Vera Broadwind seems the suspicious, aggressive sort. Wasn’t there a strip where someone mentioned she had pushed for something and the other person rolled their eyes and said "of course she did"?
I think this is the comic you mean: https://www.yafgc.net/comic/3494-a-head-of-the-others/
Broadwind had pushed the Abbot to call in the authorities, because she thought Taurenil’s death was suspicious (why she thought so exactly, we don’t know yet). As far as we know, if Broadwind hadn’t pushed the matter, the murder likely would have gone unnoticed. It will be interesting to discover what she means by "I see what’s really going on here…"
I believe that’s the one I meant. Thanks!
I took the "see whatβs really going on here" line to mean, "Let’s drop the pretense of a friendly chance encounter, and admit you’re here for the traditional Viewing of the Suspects."
Congrats on 3500. I fail to recall when I started reading, but has been quite the read. Best wishes for 3500 more!
Our investigators be like RGB π
The rest are color-coded, too!
Congratulations, Rich, on reaching 3500 strips! That’s a great accomplishment. Thank you, too, for so many great stories and a wonderful cast of characters.
For a few seconds, there was #3501 up, but then it disappeared. It didn’t… stay the course. Technical problem?
Uhhh colors! Congratulations for the 3500 strips!.
It’s hard for me to visualice how scandalously many are 3500. I know it’s a big number but for each +1 there is a lot of effort and to mantain the continuity of each +1. This is truly a cyclopean feat of artistic strenght.
Also the colors and lineart seems very smooth, I like it!
