So Taurenil wanted to be buried at the abbey, and she adamantly opposed giving the three relics as prizes. Maybe what she really wanted was to be buried near one of the relics?
I think it is important to remember that magic is greatly diminished, but not entirely gone. It might be possible that this was a "suicide" with the intent to be resurrected, though the chances of success are not guaranteed. Getting a rival to the family to be the suspect must have been icing on her cake.
All premature speculation of course. Still, I suspect Taurenil Gnu’ed something that has yet to be revealed. And hey, what better place to beat the odds than at the Abbey of Saint Aldwin?
Ressurected on the grounds of an abby known for having an anti-magic field protecting its grounds?
To me, that was more a hint she want's NOT to be ressurected. Add in her strong aversion to looking at herself in a mirror, and I wonder if she's not infected with a vampire curse, but not entirely converted yet, and committed suicide by poisoning to avoid turning entirely, here on the magic-proof abby grounds, where she's arranged her burial.
Plenty more dangling threads / holes in that theory though: Who arranged the harpsicord "accident" to the body and why, and what's the book about?
I’ve been (re)reading for the last several days and as always I find myself caught up long before I’m ready to stop! Very interested to see where this arc leads.
calling it now: she actually isnt dead. and she’s planning on recovering something she doesnt want given away. while magic is weakened and doesnt work on the grounds (so no simulacrums) she probably has a magic item on herself (which might be another point to her skull being intact and not damaged)
Clearly, I’m not the only one with an exceedingly suspicious mind: whodunnit? The "victim"!
I don’t know if she’s all the way dead ("It’d take a miracle") for now, or only mostly dead, but right now my money is on Taurenil herself (I’m probably wrong, but there you have it).
Bum bum BUMMMMM!

She’s not down there, is she? She’s disappeared, hasn’t she?
I love that idea.
t!
Or she planned to be killed so she could awaken as an undead.
