3569 – Captain Ossia
Hello! I’m still here! I’m sorry I forgot to upload this week’s comics, I’ll do it tonight if I can find the time. I’d like to say I was WAAAY to busy to get to it, but the truth is I just plumb forgot. Lots of habits have been dropped during my long absence. But I promise you, there are quite a few YAFGC strips ALREADY drawn. And much more to come.
Hang in there! π
If anyone’s interested in health news, I’m doing okay. My blood sugars are running a bit high, I’m experimenting with a Freestyle Libre2 glucose sensor and the results are cool, but also not so good. So I’m in talks with a doctor (via the in-tar-weebs) on getting this corrected through lifestyle before medication. I’m just glad I don’t need insulin injections. Yet.
-Rich
The number's correct this time!
Wonder what sort of trouble this Ossia caused. And if it was intentional on her part or not.
'Das cuz my eagle-eyed viewers are helpful and brilliant. π
I bet she bring to life Louise expectations for a life of venture, risk, danger and that things
Yo ho ho! The Pirate's life for ME!
She looks innocent enough, f somewhat exhausted. Still, for the sake of drama, I'mma wager that she's gonna wind up being trouble!
It's a good bet.
Hugely appreciating the new content after the long dry spell.
And I appreciate you appreciating it.
Uh oh, the call to adventure has come knocking
*knock knock*
Hello?
Adventure calling.
Coming! Just lemme get my coat!
With a name like Ossia, I wonder if anyone had a bone to pick with her.
It seems my punning has become Ossia-fied. Er.
Really? I was wondering if she was suffering from Vegemite withdrawal.
HAH! I should have called her 'BARBIE'! And made her a Halfling.
That's terrible. I should use that later…..
She certainly looks bone tired
I donβt get it.
The Latin word for "bone" is "ossis", plural "ossa". You see it in words like "ossified", in modern Italian "osso", and so on.
Treasure Island plot?
π
Well, they met a strange lady, and she made them nervous.
And things are JUST GETTIN' STARTED!
Yet they took her in and gave her breakfast.
She's too tall to be a dwarf (capt carrot notwithstanding), so she can't be from a land down under
Btw, Rich, please delete the reply above, thanks! I typed the wrong email
I think I got it.
Well, when the Black Mountain went kablooie, I imagine quite a few lands went down underβ¦
β¦Β the waves, that is.
And of course, they all remember that day, and ask each other if they can hear the thunder, remembering how that had to run and take cover.
All while eating Vegemite sandwiches.
oh mY GODS I JUST REALIZED THIS WAS BACK
I feel so blessed at this little joy in my life being returned. T'was never owed. And always appreciated. anD ITS BACK BABBYYYY glad to see your life's improved back to a normal enough amount of work/life balance that you can OBJECTIVELY MAKE THE WORLD JUST THIS TINY BIT FUNNER TO LIVE IN
I dunno how to express it. Just, thank you. You awesome man, makin the world "Rich"ier :p
Hope the pun is funny to you and doesn't sting. I won't do it again if it does. Had to try an' get a sneer or eyeroll at least.
I love you too, Biblioholic93! After a reaction like that, I've never been happier to be a punchline. PUN-chline. Nyuk nyuk! Pun away, my friend, you're among experts in that particular field!
Rich! So glad you're ok! Very happy about getting the comic back, but we were worried about you.
Thanks Sturgero! I'm okay, always was, just…. my brain went on vacation from YAFGC and I had trouble luring it back.
Boobies. According to Glon, it's sure fire!
So happy to see you are feeling better, cuz i totally understand how that doesn't help!
Boobies ALWAYS help.
Try to say "boobies" without smiling.
Yeah, you could probably succeed – but why would you WANT to?
t!
Yeah, it really fucks with the pronunciation, too. Beebees.
And that's REALLY not good for boobies.
Cuz if you don't want to smile, you have to clench your teeth.

She dies. In appreciation for their care, she leaves them a ship in her will.
Unless she's an INFANTRY Captain. Hmm.
Rich – is it "OSH-uh" or "OSS-yuh" or… ?
t!
Hahah, and then the Inn falls down, but it leaves the deed to the land to them in its will….
Uh…. In my mind is "AW-ssee-yah."
But "OSH-uh" actually sounds way better.
> then the Inn falls down
HAH!
I ain't gonna top that one.
t!
I've missed you. Sorry I didn't finish our conversation before. I got overpowered with that anxiety. It's not a fun thing. I ghosted Biff the same way and I feel like crap about it.
Sorry it took me this long to discover the comic was back!
Biff will understand why it took so long, and whenever you can manage it again, he'll be overjoyed to hear from you.
Meanwhile, you've made me think about getting back to a long-dormant serial I had going on A03…
t!
Is the inn bigger on the inside? It's not that impressive when seen from the exterior
That's just the surface level. It's actually a megadungeon repurposed to a hostelry.
It's a mystical property called 'badly planned, and designed as needed for story purposes'. I intended to be more careful about that sort of thing, but let's settle for more updates first. π
Don't sweat it, blame the "camera angle" for hiding the extensions that are on the back, McMansion-like. Which is how a lot of inns and public houses grew, constantly adding on.
I also think there would be a low barn as a stable for horses, which we don't see because of the captain blocking the view, and adding hints of it would distract from her. You can freely add details in that direction later.
I agree that the inn probably just has a fantastic extension out the back, to hold all the guest rooms. Get it designed by a passing wizard/architect called Hilbert, and thereβs all the room plot could ever need.
(Or could simply go the Hobbit root, and have a spacious basement).
Either way good to have more and good luck with the lifestyle pre-diabetes control Rich. Iβve a number of friends who it worked wonders for, so hope you find the same.
Heh… I just decided to check a bit frequently on the comic, and 2 days later a new strip is out…
So, I know I'm a bit late to the "welcome back party", but well… It's better late than never. Actually, the same applies to you, Rich. π The comments under the last few pages show it clearly: there always will be some of us lurking around here, and however long it takes, we are just always happy to have you back!
Eh, you aren't alone. I just figured out it was back. People will be trickling back in for a while, I imagine. π
Goodness knows I could use the good distraction, thank you Rich!
Is her first name Billie by any chance?
