I first thought it was a man, but the spider tattoo threw me off. I assumed that only Drow women would be admitted to that particular order; if the exception had been mentioned previously in YAFGC, I don’t remember it.
So, I just went with "pretty butch Drow, no surprises there." Loving the story, maybe even more that D-cups. 😉 😛 thanks for sharing!
I figure it’s possible that Drow men were allowed to have the tattoo & everything that goes with it…That would have been *before* the Drow descended into barbarianism from Ranna’s evil influence. Since most of them had to be destroyed, this could be the point where Drow men were relegated to inferior status in Drow society on the whole & it’s been like that ever since.
I think that is a drow male (even though he does have the tatoo of the sisterhood)
Apart from that, Ata is hunderds and hunderds years old. She will want to have sex at some point, and if the only other people she is surrounded with are drow females, she would naturally go on to have sex with a drow female. Same thing happens in prisons, and with penguins. It doesn’t really have anything to do with innate sexuality I think.
That’s really going to give the ‘homosexuality is a sinful choice’ people something to add to their hate thoughts :p "The only reason they sleep with the same gender is simply because there aren’t any men (or women) around"
I simply think both versions exist: you have those people who absolutely loathe the idea of having sex with someone of the opposite/the same gender, and you have those for whom it is more fluid. I personally cannot really imagine not liking someone because of their gender, but on the other hand you have those people who are gay in places that have the death penalty on being gay.
…pretty sure that, even given the choice, you still end up with "homosexual" penguins…
In this case though, it seems to be more the whole "elves tend to look dainty and pretty to humans" thing, and that is a male.
Maybe the Order used to be co-ed; it became so, in the Hidden City so there would be more generations of members once the ones who didn’t get all the blessings that the High Priestess got; that guy is a member of one of the other cults that form the Order, and they just use the same tattoos; Drow tend to use the feminine when referring to mixed-sex groups (‘because "Sister-and-Brotherhood" lacks the same gravitas); …etc. ….
Arachne mentioned the tattoo at one stage, and what it meant (believe during the coup that brought her sisters back and installed one of them on the throne, with Lloth’s blessing, but could be wrong), but can’t remember what she said about but kinda remember her saying something about it being a secret order or something, something that had become just a story or legend amongst the other Drow
It was her sister’s friend, Nephilia (and the orchestrator of the coup, Mahri, was a former mutual friend of those two, as well as Elzear’bith, Mahr’i’s sister (although she was more of a bimbo which they bullied)).
And it was Wolf who said that it was a legend. Arachne did not actually drop any information, only subtle hints that told Wolf what he already knew.
Okay, so we learnt two things (at least) on this page: one) it wasn’t the literal Hand of Ranna and b) it wasn’t Lewie who hired Slissy and Co to nab it
Yeah, but… but…
Okay, so it was a real hand after all (yuck).
But its an artifact now, one that caused that very cool little Party to forget about Dewcup? That’s bad, as in kinda evil so…
Oh, unless that was a spell Ranna cast on them.
Yeah, STILL not liking that wench very much.
Originally just a normal hand, once severed & left inside of Ranna’s tomb, it was the influence of Ranna’s magic & evil presence that eventually turned it into an artifact in its own right. Divinity by osmosis, in a manner of speaking.
But, weren’t the Party looking for the Hand of Ranna? Because, apart from Ata, who would know it _wasn’t_ the Hand of Ranna?
Oooo, it’s the daughter, isn’t it! She was the one who sent the Party!
that 2nd panel. You can just hear her: "And well… *throat clearing* anyway…"
So does every woman who spends more than a day with the Drow turn lesbian? I’m starting to think the Drow emit an aura for that specific purpose.
Well, that’s a Drow man, actually.

Just remember: Arachne can look a little ‘butch’ at times as well (butch and extremely hot :D)

Thought maybe that was either Ata’s last friend, or maybe the one she was cradling and crying over in panel six (mostly going by the hair)
Oh, I see. I got thrown off with the tattoo as well.

Ata or Lewie in panel eleven (or the next page): "What? What did you do _this_ time?"
Not Ata, that’s for sure. She saw it all with her own eyes.
Yeah. Whoops.
Now, about that hand…..
What’s happening in panel 5? Is that just a strong grip on the arm, or is there some kind of physical corruption turning the drow gooey?
If you look carefully under Ata’s fingers, you can make out a few of the spider tattoo’s legs, that’s possibly throwing you off
Yeah… "Whoops" Indeed.
Thanks again, Dewcup, for making the world just that much crazier.
Pretty sure that Arachne has the spider tattoo of the secret cult to guard Ranna’s body…
Edit: And hung (guarded?) around with a fluffy haired Drow called Charlotte… who went batpoop insane with power at one point…

It was never called "The Hand of Ranna", it’s the literal "Hand of Aliam".
Yeah, but… but…

Ranna, Ata, the "perfect" daughter and….
This is getting complicated.
A really really great plot again. It’s really delicious 🙂
