It feels a bit weird to toot my own horn like this, but I guess that's what this forum is for...?

At any rate, I just started my own Doctor Who blog, called Confessions of a Neo-Whovian. The basic premise is that I came to Doctor Who via Nu-Who, but am now a fan of the whole shebang.

Aside from "regular" blog posts, I'll have reviews of new episodes as they air and new (Region 1) DVD releases as they come out (at least, that's the plan). Later there will be a section in which I'll outline the reactions from a group of friends (also primarily fans through Nu-Who) as I show them Classic episodes.

It may or may not be something any of you are interested in, but I wanted to invite you anyway.

Thanks, M'reen. :) I've only posted twice so far (and one review), but I've got the itch to write now, so I'm hoping to keep it going pretty regularly. If you happen to stop by, let me know what you think. :)

Finally got a minute to read the whole thing. Looks fun! And it looks like you're having fun <g>

I don't really consider 8 Classic Who, but the first of of the new style of who - a dynamic lead who might kiss the girl, or not, has a budget for special effects, but what what we now would call a "steam punk" sense of style, and can wrap up a story in one viewing.

He's got the one ep I'm not afraid to show fans who only like NuWho, because essentially it's the same style but with a different Doctor.

That's a good point, and I alternately consider Eight to be lumped with one or the other. It's really kind of a stand-alone, but given that most folks who seem to come into the fold through Nu-Who start with Nine at the earliest, I usually end up lumping The Movie with Classic (even though it's really not).

And yes. I'm having a blast. :D

I imagine it's because, till next month, the movie wasn't really available on this continent, and most of the newer fans had no way to see it. They had to start with Chris Eccleston.

But I think it would be good to show folks after they've seen Parting of Ways, before getting the Children's Special and Christmas Invasion underway. A pre-post-regeneration ep regeneration ep, so they can have a feel for it.

Actually, the Movie is what I showed the Ladies of WhoFest first... :)

That would work too, tho with Rose being such an easy one to win folks over, I usually start there.

How did they like it? Will their reaction be on your blog?

They have all been introduced to Nu-Who already, and our WhoFest evenings were meant as a way to indoctrinate them into the wonders of Classic Who. :) We started by getting everybody caught up on Series 5, and then watched the Movie. From there, we went back to Hartnell and are in the process of doing a quick survey of Doctors. :)

After our next meeting, I'm planning to add a "Nu-Views" section to the blog, where I'll post about their reactions to the Classic stories we watch. The Time Warrior is up next. :D

In case anyone is interested, and hasn't seen reference to this "news" elsewhere, my blog has just "regenerated" with a whole new look-and-feel, complete with art by BK himself! :D

I'd love to have folks come visit and comment on my episode reviews (or whatever); feedback is good...

Nice. And BK hooked you up with some great art. Doctors 9-11 looking over your shoulder was spectacular. Sadly, I don't have time right at this moment to comment in more detail, so that will have to wait until later.

Thanks, Lyger! Even knowing that you've been to look is awesome! :D

I really like the Nu-View feature. That's pretty sweet. And you reviewed The Time Warrior, which I have a ginormous soft spot for. It's one of the few Doctor Who episodes on my Must Own list (a place it's held since the days of VHS). I'll admit that I don't go all Holy Grail on it when I re-watch it ("none shall pass!" was priceless), but it's a lot of fun to watch anyway.

As for:
Quote:
We couldn't help but wonder a bit, though, when Sarah Jane asked, "was that some sort of gas?" and the Doctor reassured her with, "no, just a sort of stink bomb." What... stink bombs don't emit gas?
I think she was referring to something a little more powerful than a bad smell. I suspect she thought that the Doctor would have whipped up something a little stronger, like tear gas or a knockout agent, in the same way that Lady Eleanor thought that the Doctor had come up with something a bit more permanent.

I'm so glad you enjoy the Nu-Views! :) I wasn't really sure whether or not to include it, so it's good to know that somebody likes it. :D

Well, yes, I knew what she meant. It's just that as a science geek by both birth and training, I couldn't let that imprecise definition pass (it's like someone complaining about hating "chemicals" - what, like water?). ;)
