There were certainly points where they sounded like Hartnell's cybermen - the ones that looked like metal hotdogs with vaccum cleaner tubes to their heads, they sounded like early voice synthesizers which rarely got the accent on the right syllable and tended follow a strangled musical tone instead (da-da? DA!DA!da, da-da?), and sometimes they sounded like the ones I knew better from Baker's era on, where they looked like silver smiley faces and just spoke sternly to everyone.

Since the point is to emphasize they are Mondas cybermen, not Cybus cybermen, that works for me, speaking as the audience, <g> but it's definitely something to discuss and decide for the busy people making the show, which voice pattern they wish to emphasize

Thanx for clarifying, M'reen! :) I haven't watched any of those more than once, I think, so my memory obviously isn't very clear.

If I remember rightly (and I may be wrong because I haven't watched The Key to Time saga for a while), Drax was yet another cockney in space. The show seems to have a thing about the cockney accent equating to the common man or something.

And I think M'reen was right in saying that your cybermen are a blend of the two original styles. A mix of David Banks as the rather emotional cyberleader and the original buzzing cybermen with their moving flaps for mouths!

The David Banks Cyberleader was exactly the style i was going for as i remember that very fondly. In this scene i felt that there were almost TWO cyberleaders, one with a gun and one without, which is why they have a semi-personality. Therir back and forth is sort of to represent a battle for superiority.

Of course, my favourite moment recording the scene was recording the death sounds of the cybermen! The electrocutuon scene in the 5 doctors influenced that a lot (i love the cyberman that simply lies down slowly in that one lol). It's buried slightly in the mix under the explosion and the Doctors line, but i just love them groans!

Never heard Drax's voice before, but i'll see if i cant find him somewhere and see if i cant impersonate him... lets face it, it cant be as bad as my CE voice!!

I've dug out the DVD, and Drax's accent is indeed Brixton, London, Earth!

If this upload has worked, you might be able to have a butcher's.

Get it before I get done for copyright!

EDIT: Clicked the right button now, so it might work!

Whoops - sorry about that - I'd clicked the wrong button as I uploaded it. Should be working now.
