So Beholder King is currently running a FVLMINATA game for our tabletop group, and we were chatting at the last session about movies and shows set in ancient Rome (with emphasis on brilliance, camp value or comedy - there are a billion and one bad dramas we're not touching with a ten-foot pole; if we're going to add it to the watch list, it's got to be 1) very well done or 2) so bad that it's good. None of this in-between junk).

The obvious ones of course are

Movies/miniseries:

- Rome (HBO) (durr)
- A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
- Life of Brian
- I, Claudius
- Spartacus
- Ben Hur
- Any rendition of Julius Caesar or Antony & Cleopatra
- Amazons and Gladiators, which falls firmly on the far end of 'so bad that it's good that it's excrutiatingly painful'

TV:

- Bread and Circuses episode from old Star Trek
- A recent episode of Dr. Who and an old 1st Doctor episode. ;)
- A sequence from A Brief History of the World Part 1
- Section of Blackadder Back and Forth

What would you recommend? What awesome-tastic ones have we missed, based on our criteria? We may or may not end up doing a movie night with the group based off this if we don't feel like playing one week.

I would recommend Mel Brooks' The History of the World, Part 1 for fun moments as well as...

...any Asterix graphic novel you can get your hands on!

I've got History of the World on there, albeit in the wrong category, and since this may be used for a movie night, we're not looking at books at all. But the Asterix *movies* are ones we hadn't thought of, and that's an excellent addition. Thanks!
